Is there such a thing as an ... "enhancement" pill for my torch-wielding skills?

Old post but just for info. Acetylene bottles give of about 10% of their capacity per hour safely. That little bottle pictured has ben the mainstay for the plumbing industry for years. A rose bud, cutting torch or bigger welding tip will use much more gas per hour than that bottle can put out.

It'll light, and heat for a while but will starve for fuel soon.

I admire your determination and tenacity to teach yourself how to use the oxy-acetylene torch, but if you don't have someone to teach you the right way including all the safety nuances you are flirting with danger. For instance, did you install anti-flashback suppressors on your torch lines? Do you sometimes use a match to light your torches? Do you know the differences and uses of a neutral flame, a carburizing flame and an oxidizing flame? Do you know which tank to shut down first? Does oxygen burn? Do you know what to do in case of a backfire? There's tons of other life saving info. you should be aware of.

When setting a flame, increase the oxy. until the small "feathers" disappear. That is the hottest flame poss. and the area at the end of the blue flame is the hottest part of the flame. (inside of the blue flame is cooler)
If you increase the oxy. more and the flame begins to sizzle, that is called an oxidizing flame and the is actually cooler, but will burn the steel that you are heating.

I have pretty much the same set as you (Lincoln). Called a 'junkyard' set because of the portability. You can absolutely heat with that cutting tip. But as mentioned, the small size of the tanks very limits your time to do so. A rosebud on that set would drain the oxy pretty quick.
