Is this $500 '37 Plymouth a no brainer?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 63CadGuy, Aug 9, 2006.

  1. OK, I have a chance to by this '37 Plymouth coupe for $500 and need to know how good a deal this is. I mean I know you can't buy much for $500, what I need to know is how hard is it to hot rod this car? I'd like to lower it, drop a newer motor in. And how hard is it to find parts for this car?
The car is pretty complete and not bad on rust, the doors, fenders are all real solid and the guy also has the hood.
Let me know what you think as I need to let the guy know tomorrow, thanks.

Buy it! $500 is a steal for a 37'! Especially for one in as great of shape as that one is in.

That is a no-brainer, I wish I could find a deal like that. The 37 is probably one of the easier of the 30's Mopar to find stuff for. If you need help finding parts let me know, I know of some sources for it.

That car should be in your garage already though.......

Tell ya what. You buy it for that great price, do all the work on getting the parts and pieces that you'll need, then sell it to me. J/K!!!! Hell ya it is a great deal. Just have the patient to get it together for it will be some time to accumulate the parts that you will need since it is not that common a car. I would do it if I had the chance to buy it! I love Mopars from that era. KNUX!

Let's see....If you pass on it, you have no brain. If you say "I'll take it", then you also shouldn't need to use your brain. Yep!! It's a no-brainer!

But what will the mice live in? Shouldn't those trees continue to grow in piece and harmony with the remains of the car?

Hell yeah, buy it and stuff something ugly in it. DO NOT PAINT!

i'm just gonna pretend that you never asked that and move on with my life.

i think you just asked to rub it in to every one here that you are getting it and they aren't!

I did the paint and body on one of these about 10 years ago. It had a 360 engine and a mustang II front. I remember it sitting in my shop with out fenders and a hood, just the grille shell and the body and I thought if it was my car I would channel it about 6 inches and run it fenderless. Something about it was cool. You can get parts at a company called Ply-Do. I have never done business with them personally but have heard good things about them. Just my thoughts.

  19. Thanks for the replies. I really felt that the price was a good deal, but because I never see Plymouths and I have to give this guy an answer tomorrow I had to ask. I just don't want to spend twice as much for the same parts to get it on the road and have it be worth about 1/3 as much as a Ford or Chevy, plus I need to know if parts for this car are impossible to find, I have no real idea about desire and value of a Plymouth, I just don't see that many to guage it. If it was a Ford or Chevy I'd have a much better idea. I just needed to know that it wasn't going to end up being one of those projects that doesn't have resources to finish or value when it is done. I guess I'm still wondering why I'm getting it so cheap, so I had to ask just to make sure there wasn't something I'm missing. Thanks again.

  20. Do you have any contact or web info on this company?

  21. Mike, it's not up in Pine River, it down here in the south suburbs.

    I hear that.

I had a '41 Plymouth until recently and I was offered $800 for just the trunkld off of it if I'd part it out. So yes, $500 is a steal, as long as all the coupe-specific sheetmetal is there (which I can see it is from the pictures)

Ply-Do has a website www.plydo.com I have heard they will buy and trade parts also. I know I have seen their add in one of the major magazines also...just can't remember which one.

That actually looks better than I thought it would with no fenders.
