I have to agree that these trucks are gaining in popularity. I maybe biased since I have one myself. I think that these trucks get snubbed by a lot of folks; but, I think they are good material to work with (if you like the way they look). They are mechanically simple, straight axle, 9" rear end big drum brakes. The one you are looking at has the (lately) much flaunted Y-block. A very traditional mill with cool hop up stuff available. These trucks lend themselves to being done in a 60's style or as a gasser or as a cool shop/pusher truck in my humble opinion.

It depends on your taste and what you want to build. Lowering these trucks can be a pain depending on how original you want to keep it. I ended up c notching the front of mine and having the springs de-arched to reduce my height. I also added a sway bar to the front to help out with the handling. There are many choices out there if you want to do IFS and/or air bags. You can always do the gasser thing since you have a straight axle and the 9 inch. Skinny fronts with meaty rears is very do-able in these trucks...you could set a small moon tank in the grill and build a roll cage. Black diamond tuck with colored plexi windows and a big tach on the dash. You are really only limited by your budget and imagination.

I bought my truck with the 223 six and 3 on the tree running and driving for $3000 back in 2002. Since then I have blown up the six and (with lots and lots of help from geemann51 and slamit) put a SBC, TH350 into it. I am running radars on it and I think that it looks good. I have been saving up to do the body work this year. I don't care if other people like it. It is mine and that is what matters.

I guess what I am saying is if you like this truck, buy it and then build it into whatever you think it should be. Who cares what anyone else thinks or says? Screw 'em.

If you have not seen DirtyThirty's '58 F100 drag truck build...check it out! It is great for ideas and examples of amazing craftsmanship and the potential that these trucks possess.

With a Title, you can't really go wrong for 2k. Ask to see the title, compare the numbers. Screwin' around getting all that together is worth a lot.

  5. Funny...you've said the same thing on other Ford truck threads before...Did you get hit by one as a kid or something??

Seriously, I paid $1000 for this truck more than 15 years ago, and was offered twice the purchase price to sell it back then (still have it, BTW, in my HAMB album):

Try shopping for a big window short styleside, and see what people want...parts are easy, but complete trucks that haven't been completely beat to hell are hard to find...based on your description, it sounds like a fair deal if the rust is very minimal...

too much..... I found one local for $700 which I thought was a killer deal, then I looked around at what they were going for. Good drivers with minimum rust sell for $1500 and I am in Ohio. $700 is still a good deal just not for something Im not super excited about. $2,000 sounds steep unless its pretty clean.

Sounds like you have it in for 57-66 Fords? That or you're just one of those Chevy guys that don't see anything beyond the open hood of your truck because you cant see the real world for all of the steam comming out.

I'll tell you now that now they don't bring big money for the most part, but if they are nice they will bring a good amount.

I sold my 62 short bed unibody (I-6, w/3 on the floor) for $5250.00 to a HAMBer. Yea running driving but in NO way ready for the show circut, so I guess that blows your theory.

Asd for 2K? Depends greatly on the truck. I haven't seen any pics so hard to tell.

I say get it, you want it... your past love with it is worth any additional price you may pay in my opinion... plus I paid 28 for my 58 and love the hell out of it, and all the thumbs up on the road when driving around town is well worth it too...

  11. Funny someone bumped this thread because a few days after I posted I went by a local place that's had one out for sale for a LONG time, I've seen the truck there at least a year, finally they put a big price in the window that week. They wanted $2000 or $2500 and it was ready to drive with nice paint and no signs of any rust. I didn't stop to look, maybe it has a six, maybe it's a bondo bucket, but it didn't look bad driving by. A little detailing and you could take it to a car show and not be embarassed by it. I'll go back by there in a couple weeks and if I think of it I'll check it out.

Like I said, they just ain't worth that much. The '57 we had we couldn't get $500 for, it got traded off for I forget what, I think we decided even a rusty '54 Dodge flatbed was a better piece.

IMHO 2 bills ain't bad It's got it all for those of us that like them, a 57, a big window custom cab, short wide, a 292, an O/D. I gave $1200 5 years ago for mine (short wide custom cab, no motor/trans), I'd gone another $800 if it was a big window and had a good Y-block.
FWIW the extra grill is worth $$$, I looked 2 years for one that wasn't $200 (kinda rough) to $400 (kinda decent but still needed chroming). Thats what they were selling for on E-bay. Finally found one at a swap that's chromable for $50, felt like I stole it! Good tailgates are $$$ too.
If you get it ya gotta find a 57 hood thou!

  13. need pics but sounds nice enough. yeah go buy it, what the heck.

  14. I'm going to start checking Craigslist in Dayton!
.......Hey are the houses that cheap there, too?

    Don't answer that:D

  15. 1957 is a great year for a Ford truck. They are fast gaining in value and popularity.

It has a CHROMe grille, plus an "extra".
    It is a short-wide bed.
    It has a Y-Block V8.
It has the big back glass.

$2000 seems very fair. The haggler in me says offer $1200. Tell him that`s all you can scrape up right now. Surely he`ll come back at $1500 or so .... then BUY IT.

What are you waiting on ?

I am in the market for a rust free '57 ford... Pass it to me, if you don't want it.

sounds like a decent deal at the asking price.
