I don't know jack about this stuff so help me out here. Does this look like a '32-'36 Ford axle to you guys? I am basing this guess entirely off of this picture I found on Google. These axles all look flatter than the one I have, but the other details look right? This was given to me years ago when I had plans of building a midget racer with a bike engine. I don't think the guy knew what it was or if he did, I don't remember him telling me. He died a couple years ago so I can't ask him... Center to center on the spindle bosses is roughly 48 - 48.5". It has some numbers cast into it near one end but I can't read them. MAYBE 78-3010 then something else? My eyesight sucks and they aren't defined well at all... It has to be a reproduction, it looks like it's never been used. Anywhos, it'd be nice to know what it is so if I use it I can find the rest of the parts to go with it! Thanks for your help!
The thing with the later axle is the lower surface looks smooth from the axle to the bottom of the spindle perches. On the earlier axle there is a step, like on the one I have?
I'm also gonna say '37-'41, based on the the clean, continuous ARC of the axle and most importantly, the short distance between the PERCH hole boss and the KING PIN boss at either end of the axle. DD
I'd say '37-'41. The axle should be 2-1/4" thick at the perch bosses. The earlier ones were 2" thick.
Looks like you guys know what you're talking about. Perches are 2.25", not 2.00". Thanks for the help! Now I need to decide if I really want to build that Moto Guzzi powered midget racer... I mean, I have a front axle I can mod for it, so, really, I probably should! ;-)
Well then looks like my eyesight may be better than I thought. I'd say that's the final bit of info to prove I was wrong!
