    Hi all,
I am still looking for a good Flathead for my 36 coupe. What do you think about this combo? It's got to be a beefy Flathead, but very streetable, combined with a T5 transmission. Here we go:

    1948-59L Canadian truck block
Thermo cleaned and magnafluxed, cleaned oil galleys and install new oil plugs.
The block is deck on three sides(heads & intake)
    Bored to .125 over. = 3 5/16"
    Mild port/ polish/relieve block
block is drilled and plumbed for full flow oil filter

4" Merc. crankshaft ground and polished
    All ***emblies are fully balanced
Engine is run-in and fasteners re-torqued.

Connecting rods are rebuilt on both ends.
    New Parts:
Cam brgs., Main brgs., Rod brgs., Rod bushings, ARP con. rod nuts, Cast Aluminum pistons, Cast iron piston rings, Oil pump(M-19), Oil pump pickup housing and screen, Timing gear set, Complete valve ***emblies: SS valves, guides, springs, shims, keepers, retainers, Adjustable lifters, All gaskets.
    Add ons:

    Reground 3/4 race camshaft
Weiand "Cheater Heads" Polished 8.5-1 compresion ratio
    Offenhouser 2 carb manifold
Rebuilt electronic ignition Dist. 40,000 V. coil
    Spark plug and wires
    2 carbs Rebuilt
    new or rebuilt water pumps
    new GM 1 wire alt.
    new fuel pump
    Painted black
    new 10' clutch
    rebuit pressure plate
    Flywheel resurfaced
    new ringgear
    Rebuilt starter

They claim to get around 150 horses with GOOD low end torque, what would perfectly fit my needs... and: any carb's suggestions?

  3. What Lowsquire said.....

The Eddy Super Dual will run nice and hard and have great fuel distribution/airspeed for great low down TQ with that size flathead.

I have seen dyno numbers with the standard dual offy and off heads with the 4" stroke and they were a little over 150 in the 155 range
I am running the same setup on a Ford crank (3 3/4 stroke) and am getting 138 hp at 4000 RPM and 190 ft lbs of torque at around 1800. We did not rev any higher than 4K

You say the block was decked, I hope it wasn't alot because flatties have thin decks.

Other than that, depending on price, it looks nice and has nice specs.

    I wouldn't go with a "3/4" cam. Too mild. Go with a Winfield SU1-A or a Literrio L-100.

I don't wanna go into a cam discussion (5 guys, 10 opinions...) but is the "3/4" race cam not way above a stock one? Don't need a high rpm cam, 'cause the 36 is stock and won't be "abused" on the track... Have an agressive cam in my roadster and it's fun!

  8. L100 can will work fine in your engine on the street.

Dont believe the "race" "and 3/4" race labels/monikers - they're marketing tools left over from the cam wars of the 50s.

The L100 cam is a nice street cam and in your 270 ci + engine will be totally streetable in a 36 coupe.

    Just ask me lol.
