Street racing is where this all started...get over it to whoever is crying about it. If ya feel like racing on the street then race on the street. Way more accidents are the result of drunk driving, inexperience and not paying attention.

thats a true statement! in a non vehicle related incident me and 2 buddies got arrested for public intox while outside of a bar waiting for a cab! we spent the night in the 'tank, and eventually the judge dismissed the case. but if they see fit, they can and will arrest. it is the "letter of the law" vs "the spirit of the law."

california will impound your vehicle for 30 days for racing. i'm sure there are more charges to it too.

More people are killed by guns than knives so stabbing someone with a knife isn't all that big of a deal.

Fred tagged the wall of an abandoned building, but since Bob set fire to the church, Fred should get away with it since it's not as serious.

Little Johnny called little Jenny "trash" but, jimmy called jessie a "fucking slut" so it's no big deal.

The arguments that one illegal/wrong thing (drunk driving, cell phones in some places, etc.) kills more people than another illegal/wrong thing (street racing) are the worst arguments you can make. It is flat out illegal. If you don't understand that term, it means that doing the act in question is unacceptable to society and you will be punished for doing it if caught. So don't do it, and if you do it then get it trouble for it, don't bitch about it.

I'm sure you would be singing the same tune if I Ran over your wife, or sister, or mother while racing on the street.

I'm sure you would still be this cavalier about your attitude.

Yep. I'm positive you would shrug it off.

using the law of averages to prove a point when it comes to driving doesn't wash, in particular when you are talking to a group of people that actually own cars fast enough to be truly dangerous.

Go to the GOOGLE advanced search page and in the box that says with all the words type in "killed".
Then in the box that says with the exact phrase type in "street race" .
The hits that search turns up says it all.

    Weird.

In 1986 I destroyed my first Trans Am (1977 400cid) at the intersection of Dowlen and Delaware. Actually...I came to a stop about 50 yards after the intersection.

The other TA I was racing ended up on its side at a gas station on the corner.

We both had bounced off each other and I hit part of a pole and he hit the back of a truck and rolled.

We both lived but were both hurt. That was the last time I was in an all out white knuckle on the streets though. Was exactly the wake up call I needed I guess.

  9. Agreed. Part of the point I was attempting was that cell phone use while driving should also be illegal. Not that one is worse than the other so the lesser should be ignored/dismissed.

The other point was about perception. Fitting since the perceived part you got wasnt the point I was trying to make. :) If a cop perceives you to do something illegal or dangerous by his estimation, regardless of if it actually is or not, he can ticket you/arrest you.

Vague wording in a law can exacerbate that problem, making even very minor and innocent actions cause for an arrest. It comes down to how far they want to push it, and how far they can make the law stretch around different actions.

As for another question about how much power do I need to get a loaf of bread? Well as much as I have under the hood. Just because I dont use it doesnt mean I cant have it, especially if I am willing to put up with the way the engine makes said power and not bitch about gas prices.

I can't imagine being in the same courtroom with somebody that harmed my kids because he was streetracing.... Gotta agree with Lux and MarkX. Another reason why I love TX.

Traffic laws in Texas only apply to punks, cell phone users and out of staters.

Point well taken and you are right. You don't think of anything bad until it happens to you, your family, your friends or even just people you know. I personally do not street race anymore and did not do it on a regular basis, but I would not be opposed to it either. I am not talking about racing on a main street with alot of traffic...we raced along US 52 along the river (east of Cincinnati), it used to be a great spotfor us..a divider between the opposing lanes of traffic, a long straight stretch, not much traffic especially at night and the quarter mile marked off with spray paint. There are safe places to street race.

A few years back I lived with a couple of buddies from high school on a back country road, the road was about a mile long, perfectly straight with corn fields on either side. We had a quarter mile stretch marked out and would race there now and then in the summer. Granted, our cars were not that fast, we only got up to maybe 110 mph or so. We always had someone sitting on each end of the road with cb's to let us know if any other cars were coming. I'm not saying people should be doing the Fast and Furious shit on busy streets like you see in the movies but sometimes you have to pull the stick out of your ass and let loose a little, while using a little common sense of course!
