I have a set of 59 ford conv. doors listed on another site. Recieved a email from a John Cole in UK wanting to send money order for them. Does anyone know of him? Do I let him send the money and hold them until everything clears? I would like to sell them, but would also like to have the money, not holding the bag.

I've sold enough stuff on e-gay to know that you ALWAYS wait for the money to show up and clear the bank...you gotta cover your own ass first cuz nobody's gonna do it for you...i've also heard of enough guys getting screwed by not waiting and sending the parts before clearing the payment...wait until the money comes, take it to the bank, and make sure it's good...if he wants the parts, he'll understand...if he's scammin' you, he'll realize that he can't, and move on to the next poor soul....just some words of freindly advice...

I was asking if anyone knew this guy. He isn't that interested in the cost and didn't inquire about shipping.

Check into it man, see if he's got a website, or listed as a buyer.

I've had 3 or 4 different guys from Europe interested in my Model A.
They'd e-mail me back & forth for a few days, then say they'd send a cashiers check for the total amount, as well as the shipping. They'd want me to cash the check, then pay the shipper that "theyve arranged".

I did some investigating, and was forwarned by the great group of guys on the HAMB when I posted the same question as you. I've also seen some other websites with warning about scams like these...

be cautios...but it could be legit...

I think the best thing would be to email him back and try to get a conversation going about '59 Fords.

Most of the scammers wouldn't know a '59 Ford from a Yugo so it should be pretty easy to tell if he is straight up.

This is not on ebay. So I don't have anyway to check that I know of.

This guy is in England...ever thought about how many 59 Ford convertibles there are over there?
He may not care about the cost because whatever the cost he's willing to pay for doors that are probably as rare as hen's teeth where he's at...IMHO

Get his phone number and call him, or have him call you. One phone call should make things clear.

Well, It could be for real. See if he sends a real money order. Beware of cashiers checks and if you get a cashiers check that is for more than the price plus shipping and he asks you do do something with the extra (like pay "some guy" to ship them) it's probably a scam and the check/money order is probably a fake (and there are some good fakes that can fool some bank employees).

My bank will not accept foreign money orders if the money order does not have the US adress of a bank printed on it where they can send it for processing, UNLESS I pay a $35.00 "foreighn check processing fee".
Did this guy contact you through the ebay "ask a seller a question" ebay email? If he did, you might want to get in touch with ebay security (go to the main ebay page, click on help and look for fraud or security) and see if they have any complaints about this ebay user contacting others about selling after an auction ends. If he does have more than a few complaints he probably is a scammer. After auction offers from foreign countries seems to be coming from mostly scammers these days.

The classic scam would be for one of his "American business associates"
to send you a check for a much larger amount than your agreed price.
You are asked to cash the check and send the difference.
Of course, the original check bounces, and your screwed.

OR maybe the guy lives half way around the world
and doesn't stand a snowball's chance in Hell of finding parts locally.

    Or something in between.

Dude, first of all 59 ford convertible doors should be the same as a hardtop.
Why are you getting them from the UK???!!
Shipping that alone is going to kill you.
    unless they're free.
I would look around in the states post in classifieds, or drive without doors.

This is a no brainer kat, You should wait for the cash just for the plain fact shipping will be a wicked pisser. Like everyone else has said the doors can't be that rare, you must be getting one hell of an asking price to even consider it.
