Who really gives a flying **** what category it fits......I'd love to have it sitting in my driveway.
I think it's great guys build cars that are "toonish" and toyish. As a kid I spent many Saturdays in the late 60's in KMart searching for the latest red stripe tire Hot Wheels while my buddies were swingin the bats and throwing balls 3 isles over. I really dig these things and think it's pretty cool some guys invest the time and money. I really got a charge out of the twin engine rod a couple of years ago at SEMA.
Other than the stupid-*** air cleaner and the fact it'd be hell to see out of, I like it. I'd take of the skull/intake setup and replace it with two fours and a trad aluminum scoop, then drive the bejeezus out of it. But then, I've always enjoyed the little car/ big-*** engine idea.
Please. Spare us. The car is well done for what it is but it is hardly "Traditional". It you have to ask you probably don't get it.
If you read their page, they even admit that it's Kartoonish and that they had fun building it. I think it's way cool, even though I would change the air cleaner (although you gotta appreciate the talent it took to build it), but then again, what would you put on it to fit the rest of the car? I think I'd rather have the money. I'll bet the kids like it though. JayD
It looked better in bare metal - looks plastic in paint. But what do I know, it's his money and he gets a kick out of it. We should all be driving around in our dream cars.
I like it, it's functional art (don't like the scoop though) To me it's traditional 60's since it's based on models from the 60's (monogram etc.) that I remember building as a young lad. It isn't traditional 50's but then again what Barris was doin wasn't traditional at that time either. I mean think about it - if everyone stayed "traditional" we would be seeking Kustom Amish Buggies with br*** lantern lights, and I will put up my draft horse against your pony in the field with a plow any time you want!
been some threads about this car a long time ago here on hamb... i would rather have had the 1934 5w coupe built in traditional hotrod style like with an flathead and big n little firestones etc than that car... anyhow its an 1/1 scale hot wheels, pretty cool but doesn't really really do it for me i just can't help of thinking of so much more cooler ways to treat an 33-34 5w steel body
Hell yes!!!! Great machine . I dig the air cleaner too! ALL cars should look like this. This car gets 5 stars in my book.
http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=20327&highlight=cartoon+kartoon It's been brought up before. Like it for what it is. If we all drove flat black 32's with red rims...........Oh man, now that is a nasty thought.
That Is Incredibly Fantastic. I Love The Exageration Effect. Zinger/ed Roth T-shirt 'come-to-life'. :d
It has some coolness to it. But it mainly looks like those stupid HotWheels that are all out of proportion.
I would drive it after changing just a few things... Needs a 6-71 with a Scott Super Slot in it, with weedburner headers or just headers that are not so goofy looking, and the rake flattened out a little to remove some of the cartoon - its mostly those goofy rear tires. I would drop on some piecrusts...
One of those things that I would never build or own, but you gotta dig it in a sick sort of way. I mean, they hacked up a real '34 5-window to make it. And that skull thing, as hideous as it is, cracks me the hell up. Holy jeez is it ugly... but I could say the same about a LOT of HAMB cars that are not as well built or functional.
It needs a set of injector stacks and zoomie headers. What are the tires from? I grew up in the 60's/70's and built all the models of that time. If it came out in 1970 everyone would of loved it. It's not for me, but some of the cars on here aren't for me.
That was at the Seattle (Puyallup) GG event and I remember standing next to the rear tires. They nearly came up to my waist! I think they are 36", maybe 33" It's pretty insane. Based on the builders objective and desire to make a cartoonish car, I'd say they met their goal. Not my tastes, but that's not why they built it.
is it traditional? ummm.. no. it's also not practical, or reasonable, barely even feasible. would I drive it?? YEAH!!! people would look at me funny... or laugh... or roll their eyes.. or poo their pants. but wouldn't it be fun to drive?? i think it's awesome, as i think I've said in the past. it's perfect for what it is. I think it's supposed to be fun.
I like the owrk that was put into it. I dig the car too. But in my opinion the air cleaner is a little over the top. Leave it hanging on the garage wall yes but put it ontop of your motor nope. ONLY IN MY OPINION THOUGH.
It is defibulator. I had it as wallpaper for a while. Just type in defibulator in your search line and it should come up.
Yes, it is absolutly traditional, it is think Ed Roth, very cartoonish...****in Kool As Hell...Im sure its not traditional to some of you because its shiney.
I'm not sure you'd want to drive it any distance, because the pic I saw of the owner cruisin' the fairgrounds had his head and neck stickin' up outta the top! Also the rear tires are recapped big rig tires that are 38" tall.
