Is this as good a deal as it seems?

You ask for our opinion, then you say this? Well it sounds like you want to go buy it. But SINCE you asked.....Id stay away, Ive bought nicer hot rods for around 10-11 K that were alot cooler that didnt need much at all.

  3. Kid, I've got a restored 1937 Terraplane sedan that I'll sell you for $13,500. It's worth $12K more than that fried Ford, and you can drive and enjoy it NOW. Look around! There are WAY better deals on way better cars than that thing you are looking at.

Like several have said. if you buy this Ford, despite tons of sage advise warning otherwise from guys that have been around the block a few hundred times, be prepared for a giant dose of "Oh, ^&$#, what did I do?"

Well, from the sounds of it, it not even close to being an original Model A. Being that I am not into "cobble jobs" I really can't give advise on the price, 'cept it sounds a "bit" high, ya, a whole lotta "bit". I suggest that you shop around to find what 12 g's will really buy. Good luck. Skolzie

Just read the whole thread for the first time....Dunno what to add,but if this is supposed to be a good father/son project, and you are both wanting to do it together,fine...JUST NOT THIS CAR.....I remember being just your age and begging my dad to let me buy either an A sedan,or a 37 coupe, both within 5 miles of our house..I had a job,and I had the money...but didn't know shit...both cars were FUBAR,but cheap and convenient...Maybe you guys could pull it off,but with what I'm reading, sorry,it ain't gonna happen...Keep looking, and remember 98% of HAMBERS who don't want to see you fuck up said DO NOT BUY THIS CAR...

OK... Let's look at the package. It need extensive body work. It needs frame work. It needs suspension work. Questionable motor+tranny. Interior is outdate, which wouldn't be that big, but it ALSO needs work. There's nothing on that car that sounds good to be honest, everything needs redone. Not to mention you're counting on that guy's skill as far as structural integrity and design is concerned. It sounds like it would be a real nightmare, I've bought cars that were similar type situations and it's a miserable experience. There were a couple that almost put me off old cars all together it was so horrible trying to fix things. It's easy to modify from stock than it is to fix half-ass jobs, not to mention more enjoyable and rewarding. I'd offer 4G's, no negotiation, 4G period. But I'm sorta a dick when it comes to negotiating cars, I learned from the best, Daddy Beetlejuice (my old man is BRUTAL on car dealers. He even makes me step back and say dad, that's crazy! But he gets the deals!), probably why my most friendly transactions have been EBay.

Take it with a grain of salt, I spent 2500 on a running (but not driving, no floor!) '30 A Tudor in bone stock condition, the roof needed some tweeking to square it up well (a hay bail fell on it, it spent decades literally in a barn, but I'd rather fix the little bit of hay bail damage than have to deal with a typical east coast body), but other than that it's just got basic surface rust on the body, just gotta clean it off. It is DEFINITELY way better to roll your own from start to finish, I have really enjoyed working with the A (and for that matter my Galaxie, but it is super solid and I pretty much stole it, the guy I bought it from never registered in 7 years of ownership, he had bought it off the guy that began building it and had NO idea what he was sitting on). Modifcation is more fun than repair, and I know whenever I look at another car, no matter how much I like it, theres ALWAYS something I would have done different. You build it, you get what YOU want.
