As long as we are talking about Lincolns, This is one I thought about running. It's a 368 + .060 bore with a 317 truck crank which makes a 364 cid engine. ported and polished heads and as you see SBC injection. It needs a cam and pistons. But it could be running pretty quick. To bad ****** lives so far from me. I would like to run this engine in the C/AIR cl*** at Bonneville or El Mirage. But I am not about to build a car to put it in.
Sweet I should be pretty close to you in June ( with a truck) and drive right past ya if I decide to make a stop in Redwood City.
It's all together but it hasn't been started in 2 years. My dad used it to haul firewood out of the woods to burn for himself. Now he uses the tractor because it has a front loader bucket, which makes unloading a simple push of a lever. He has arthritis. He said everything was working when he parked it. That sounds all very nice, but I want to see progress. Get cracking! Keep at it, lad! No work, like Hot Rod Work! I'm trying to motivate you.
Thanks. But first I have to buy the truck from him. What do you suppose fair market value is for the whole truck? Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
I'm in Denmark, Europe. So it would be between priceless and without value. S**** steel goes for 0.8kr or kilo. So that would put it about 800-1000kr. In an add it would be adverticed at 2000kr. If it was my dads, I pay half, give him the money from s****ed steal. There a 5-7 people in all Denmark, that are stupid/brave enough to do anything with. And I'm one of them. Proberly a wortheless post on this threat, but thats my 2cent
Before you commit to fixing the old truck up. You might want to check some things out. That's a 1 ton rig. In Arkansas that requires you to have a CDL. If you haul or tow vehicles even on a trailer you have to have a light bar & special insurance ect. I bought a 64 1 ton that originally had a Y block. I installed a 69 330 FE engine & trans out of a school bus. the body is really nice hardly any rust or dents. I was planning on making a wrecker . The insurance was priced at $800 every 6 months for just my own use. if I towed or hauled others property insurance would have been much higher. Its sitting out back. I went and built a 3/4 ton wrecker the 3/4 ton is exempt from DOT rules & regulations. no special insurance required if I just tow & haul my own stuff.
Thanks for the heads up. I had no idea i would need a cdl license to drive a one ton. Perhaps i will yank the engine at my Dad's place and part the rest out before s****ping it. ***uming, of course, that he's willing to sell it to me. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
If the truck is going for s**** how about this. Take out the engine and whatever parts you want, find an old engine somewhere and throw it in the back plus whatever junk you can find to make up the weight and call the s**** yard to haul it away. The old man will get as much as he would have anyway and you will have a cool engine.
If your Y block has top end oiling issues, pull the pan and check the rear main bearing. A combination of high miles, few oil changes and borderline balance of flywheel and clutch when new means that the rear main clearance will be around 5 thou. Put a new bearing in with proper clearance and voila! oil returns to the rocker arms. The oil offset between head and block was designed in by Ford. Who knows why, but its only a problem if the engine gets no oil changes. Back in the day ****py valve springs really limited max RPM. Valve float would either bend pushrods or break rocker shaft hold down bolts. I pulled a 272 apart one time that had over a dozen bent pushrods in it. The old time trick was to put FE valve springs in, any old stockers would do. Gave you another 1000 rpm. Have any decent engine build balanced. Henry was cheap.
Thanks for that information. Looks like the truck is well under the limits for needing a CDL license in Texas. Good to know! Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
