I joined this group a little while ago,but dont see much activity. I dont own a coe but wish I did ! I just like seeing ones brought back to life and maybe down the road get one to fix up. Hope you spark some more action with the group.

I want to participate more but I haven't started my project so I don't have build pictures at this time. I own a 39 GMC (my avatar). I am considering diesel on a later model ch***is. I want to create a tow rig to tow a fifth wheel. One of the ideas that fascinates me I saw online in a build pic. The truck was widened. Six inches in the front, seventeen in the back. I think this would be a cool way to add a little extra room, along with stretching the cab. What are some of your opinions. I am not afraid to tackle this idea, but any feedback would be great. I am still researching, looking at other builds etc. I am hoping to have a new shop built within the next year. When that happens I will start the project and keep a journal. I think this forum is great. I check it almost daily and I will contribute more as my project comes to life.

  4. I do most of my talking in the workshop, especially when I hit my finger instead of that stuck bolt !!!!!!!!!!!!!:(

When there are things to be said I will say them, when I have nothing to say then that is what I will do, say nothing.;)

Ok I just remembered something, how do you remove the outer bearing on a C30 rear drum, it seems that the cage that holds the rollers is too big to fit through the hole at the front.

I'm in the middle of a 41 COE Ford. I mounted it on a 84 Chevy van ch***is. It now has a pickup bed on it that is 55" wide and 10'6" long for the correct proportions.
I will be copying a 1930 wrecker boom for the back and am installing a tortion bar axel to handel the extra weight. Should be painted in about 2 months.
I haven't mastered the art of downloading pictures yet. (There are some things a big hammer won't do!)

mhuntley, Your project sounds cool, I have had a similar concept for a future coe project. I have moth balled a 5.9 ***mins with a allison auto. Your cab mods sound good but sounds like alot of work, I plan on lengthing cab but subframing front and installing late model rearend with air ride.. goose neck and HD rear hitch. SS half fenders etc. Basically creating a single axle little tractor. Post a pic of your 39 jimmy and keep us posted on your truck. Your ideas sound very interesting

Rodger Walling, Your project also sounds cool, could you explain the torsion bar set-up your talking about? The wrecker boom thing is outstanding,I think we all need a school kid to help us to get some pics posted, but we would all like to see um! Try it if if doesn't work then use the big hammer. LOL

I'm always checking out new posts and pictures on this group,I'll start posting some progress pics once I get going on my project, its a 56 chevy LCF coe,I'll be fitting the 56 cab to a 1995 GMC crewcab dually 4X4 ch***is,need the 4x4 up here or the truck becomes a large paperweight for 6 months out of the year. With the torsion bar IFS 4X4 I should still be able to get the truck fairly low.If only it would quit snowing dammit!!
Here's the truck as it sits now, same pic as I posted in the gallery.

fabmancoe , The tortion bar axel is a tube welded to the frame with rubber inside bit\oh ends with trailing arms that hold the tires. They are commonly used on trailers tor tandem axel set ups. I am using it more for looks, but it will hold an additional 2300 lbs's if I tow anything with the wrecker boom. (Thr boom is also mainly for looks but will be functual)

I lurk this group like casper the friendly ghost.
With little 'uns and an unexpectantly-expectant wife, my life has gotten real busy lately. I check in when I get the notification e-mails sent of activity and try to chime in anywhere I can contribute.
On that note, if anybody hasn't noticed, we got a how-to-post-pics thread going.
Spanky, post up buddy. I'll dole out some atta-buoys.
I guess my take-away here is I need to do a better job of typing in what I mumble as I peruse. It seems y'all can't hear me mumble... strange.
and you guys with the snow, send it Oklahoma's way. we need some moisture somethin awful.

mhuntley, I'm with you on the stretching bit. a few years ago I visited a fella here in south central oklahoma who'd stretched out his chevy coe in both the front to back and side to side directions. it very well may be the one you mentioned. I have my ideas on how to do it, but plan to visit with a few more guys that actually have before I dive in. oh, and have to get the coe too.
As far as getting a coe, I'm aimed at an auction on the 21st to try to drag one home. start wishing me luck now, would y'all?

Oké, this group me not be the most lively and entertaining, but I love it very much and why does is have to be more than that.
I think the COE owners are not that young off age? (I myself am 41) so I don’t think we don’t have a lot of time to figure out all this computer stuff and we like it more to build cars and not sit behind a computer for hours and hours.
It takes also a lot of time to (re)build A COE truck so there is not every day A story to tell.
Also I believe there are not that many brave men that do A rebuild of A truck, the most stick with the pickup.
All the parts are there for A pickup, but fore A COE Cab that you’re building onto A new model ch***is you have to be very inventive.
I do my best to make A command when I can or to post A new topic when I have found some info about a COE truck.

I do have some great news. On 23 April there will be A photographer to make pic’s of my truck fore A duch car magazine.
The magazine will be out in Jun/july.

Greetings and have fun with your Trucks.:cool:

Rodger Walling, OK I understand, I use that type of torsion axle on some trailers I mfg. That should work nice, have you considered using a couple air bags to move up and down? That extra axle will look cool and unusual too.

Hey Guys. Last weekend, I made a lot of progress on my COE, with the help of a buddy. The cab is ready to lift off the frame. The body is also ready to lift off the donor van, a 1987 E100; 302/AOD. Car shows are starting every weekend now. So.....we'll continue as soon as possible. BTW, still can't post photos.....workin' on it.
