I hate extension cords so I put the boxes about 4 foot spacings so I wouldn't have to use them much. I have replaced all the cords on my corded tools with 18 foot long cords. That includes my MIG, stick welder and plasma cutter. There's 750 foot of 12/2 wire in the shop so far and 150 ft of 8/3 for welder plugs.
It gets cold up here in Montana so we insulated with 1 inch core insulation against the purlons and then built false walls did the wiring then used 6 inch glas' kraft faced insulation and covered with 7/16 osb. The ceiling will be sprayed on closed cell foam. We have a propane furnace and a wood burning stove in there as well. I put in several paddle fans to help move air around.
Getting close to being able to move inside.

Greg, That is one nice shop. The hoist is really a neat deal. Your shop is alot bigger than mine. I am 24 X 48. I'm trying hard not to get ahead of my self in moving in. Need to paint and trim first but really want to be in there and get back to work on my COE. I hate to paint !!

thanks donn- my shop is 40x40 with a 14 foot ceiling, the posters on the wall are from the kalispell mt rod runs we attended over a 30yr period.i love the hoist. i didn't put enough plug in receptacles in so i'm always using extention cords. beats building hot rods out in the driveway.

yea donn its what i call my summer beater. its a 56 GMC, same year as me. my dad had a 56 when i was a kid and i've always liked them. i bought this one as a sort of restored farm truck for my 50th birthday. it had some real scarry things done to it (steering etc)so i drove it the 4 miles home and then i clipped it with a 74 nova front end, installed a posi rear end with helper air bags, i used a 305-700r combo. the 305 has to be the most gutless smallblock ever. a change is in the near future.it shows well and gets used lots. my wife has even been known to use it.

Damn, The electrical inspector was here and didn't like some of my wiring. Had 30 amp curcuit breakers on 12/2 wire have to change them to 20 amp and 10/3 on my 240V runs were 50 amp breakers he wants 30 amp there Oh well i'll change out until I am inspected again and then change them back !
Going to grab some Kilz oil based primer tomorrow and get started on the walls.

Honest I am going as fast as a 67 year old man can go and that ain't fast.

Donnda, safety first. You should follow the inspector's instructions. Change the wire size or add runs for the larger breakers. Don't want to burn up that new shop!!!!!

went to our season opener yesterday in calgary, nice sunny day and about 450 cars and trucks. spent some time with the other c.o.e wannabee's (blaaze-b-bop) LOL. not a single cabover there so blaaze and myself should hurry up a bit and start to represent. b-bop is still looking and would like to find a 38-40 ford c.o.e. :)

I have 90% of the stuff that belongs in the shop there. 10 tool boxes 7 gorilla rack shelving units. The walls and insulation are in and painted. Have the propane stove in and plumbed Wood burning stove in and almost have the chimney done, Still have a 4 X 8 sheet of 3/4 plywood on saw horses in the middle of the floor stacked with junk that has to be put away yet. ****TTTTTTTTTTTTTT I should be able to get the cab, ch***is and sleeper in it late next week Hooray. Really didn't know how much junk I had stored in my ba*****t with my tools. I also found a ton of duplicate tools and even some I forgot I had. Need to get the floor mount drill press and the hydraulic press up from down there (heavy stuff)

Got absolutely nothing done on the COE. Did gather up some nice parts tho'

I guess it would not have taken so long if I had omitted the office/man room and the Bar. I really built the whole shop for 2 projects The COE and a 53 F-100.

I love the change of seasons but winter in Montana is so damn long a guy has to get out of the house once in a while. I don't work out of the home so I have to have some distraction!

Chris, I am putting mine behind the cab under a sleeper in order to gain leg and foot room in the cab. I thought and thought about it and this was the best for me. I would think what you want in the end would help make the decision. If you wanted to have a pick up style I would think the front engine would be the way to go.
There is a thread here about engine placement look it up.

I check it everyday to see what is going on. My project has been going slow the last couple weeks so I had nothing to post.

  24. I check it frequently, but it is kinda slow. Love to see them and wish I was working on one... Sold the coes that I had and am shopping for another. Hopefully I will get another soon.
The one I looked at this week (and have made an offer on) is a '40 (I think) Dodge on a late model chevy 3500 ch***is. 454/auto mounted in the back. The only thing I'm not super excited about is that it has a sleeper cab and then the engine behind that and is set up for a fifth wheel instead of a flatbed like I would prefer. It was in a dark warehouse so my pictures didnt come out. He's gonna bring it outside so I can check it out better this weekend. I'll try to get some and try to figure out how to post 'em.

bouoy- i'll guess the reason for your question is that nobody replied to your post. if this is the reason, i think its because there are a few threads already discusing frames being used under our c.o.e.'s and there might not be a lot to add. i check this group often and sometimes it stalls a bit but don't give up. share. greg

Maybe I should do something to make it more active but for the life of me I can't think what.

I think Greg is right on the ch***is thread. I couldn't add anything to what had been said

Hi guys, hope everybody is well.. I have been tied up with lately with work and had little time for my personal projects or much of anything else.Looks like that may be true with others as well. I am excited to see some garage pics on the thread pex started. Seeing pics of some old iron being made new is cool too. I am trying to get back in the groove again on my projects...maybe going into dreaded winter will allow more garage time...keep pluggin

nice to have a little action on our group. i'd like to see some more threads started to keep things rolling or more updates on projects. less lurking and more posting. we have lots of good guys on here that can contribute, the more you guys add, the less of my drivel you'll have to endure.
