I can respect that he worked on what he loved while sick & dying.... Is he dead Or did i miss read that ?

But there is still the fact that the Shark is a SHOW CAR, over the top ? YES But none the less.

So is the LUNAR LANDER built by a guy on the hamb .... And every one here love it.

Does it meen that Frank DeRosa needs to be sick or dead for anyone to recognize that he is a Kustom Car Icon ?

Or does he need to Join the HAMB and do a Build tech post to be accepted?

I am confused at what the Hard Core HAMB members guide lines are for if you or your car have to be to FIT IN or BE COOL.

The SHARK is off a Bubble or 2, but still is cool in its own right as its a DONE SHOW CAR.

Or maybe i am a bubble or 2 off in thinking That the HAMB dosent set the STANDARD in what is & what is not

The difference between the Fonz and DeRosa is clear as day, and if you think it's about finish quality, the HAMB, tech posts, or being sick man you're totally off. Joe left us several years ago, unfortuanately before the rat rod thing got popular. Joe was the original, not that I'm defending rat rods, but he would have been totally psyched to see the younger generation's enthusiasm about rods and customs. Joe was the embodyment of the passion and enthusiam that one can have about kustom cars. He wasn't trying to live a lifestyle, he was the lifestyle. Stories of Joe are that of legend, and so prolific that they could fill volumes. The above thread does justice to Joe, and you should read it. Joe left a last impression on many.

    Derosa could never match that....

If I built that thing I'd be thrilled that some one else was taking credit for it. That thing is [IMG].

The Land Shark is the most over the top Kustom that De Rosa ever did, with the Pirrana. King of the Mercs and there are many more that come out of their shop. Don't generalize his work using one car that was the most popular kustom in it's day. Frankie Jr carries on the tradition ................in a shop.

Just hit the link tho, he has done some sweet stuff. And I see why you are partial perhaps? That shoebox is killer.

  15. no,
i dont think you are off at all.
evidently we've turned a sacred cow into hamburgers or somethin.
no disrespect to the dead but the merc is not one of the finer examples of the breed.
oh yeah, and as far as guidelines for being a HARDCORE hamber i think it has something to do with using the right kind of pomade and the ownership of at least one 6 cylinder black primered 4 door or somethin like that.i really wouldnt know though because i am usually too busy figurin out what to do next to my COUPE to worry about praising marginally legandary dead folks.
but we better be quiet because one of these ruff and tumble HARDCORE greasers might want to come to our houses and rumble.
all i gotta say is they better pack a lunch.
hell there will probably be several of them being as they will probably be drivin a 4 door.:)

  16. WOW!
    that took some balls.
doggin ohio, home of the gasser,mr gasket, lakewood ind.,some of the most legendary drag racers and historic world known Dragway 42.
DOGGIN SO CAL yeah nothin cool ever happened there like maybe the entire hot rod aftermarket, drag /dry lakes racing, the N.H.R.A.,and it quite possibly might be the very epicenter of all things hot rod.
    NEW JERSEY!
    c'mon,ya gotta be kiddin me
    the armpit of the u.s.a.
toxic waste, medical refuse, plastic plants ,and sewage.
not to mention the crooks, mobsters, and douchebags you guys import into ohio because they run out of people to screw in jersey.
no thanks ill stay in ohio.
go home and listen to your Bon Jovi and Bruce Springsteen 8 tracks and go worship at your fonzi alter.

No disrespect to Henry Winkler "THE REAL FONZ" intended:)

When did I say anything negative about So-Cal? Actually, I can't even dog Ohio since Jegs has gotten so much business from me. You say those things about NJ as if it's bad! We soak up the sun on poluted beaches and are the home of the Mob...we wear that badge with pride! :)

Just pointing out that your comments were narrow-minded and the "praising marginally legendary dead folk" comment was quite rude, especially to those whom Joe Carloni meant something to. His daughters are on this board

This thread started out as a legit thread about the Derosa cadillac and wound up with everyone bashing his cars and Fonzi. It went gay real fast.
Now i'll go back to listening to Springsteen...

I don't think we should trash anyone that builds a hot rod, to our tastes or not.

    Pink truckaroosters excluded.

  21. lets face it except for the hamb and a couple of pages in ckd nobody has ever heard of fonzie .
that was my point about 'marginally legendary"not that he wasnt a great guy.
lets face it Barris,Roth, and starbird usually turn up in conversations about great customizers.
    fonzie usually does not.
and i was just funnin ya about jersey.
everybody just needs to go to wall mart and buy themselves a sense of humor.:)

Mr. Johnny come LATELY is here to ADD his point of VIEW with capitalizing every other WORD even though he doesnt have a CLUE what he's talking abOUT.

Sorry bud, I dont have a coupe....just a bunch of cool Mercs and shoeboxes. I guess that makes me a chainwallet commando tho...

"No disrespect to Henry Winkler "THE REAL FONZ" intended"....

THAT takes some balls tho...even from a know nothing douchebag such as yourself. Maybe go back and read that thread about Fonzie before you go running your mouth. Oh sorry, forgot, you have a "coupe". You made it.

"lets face it except for the hamb and a couple of pages in ckd nobody has ever heard of fonzie ."

Right, are you serious? First off, he wasnt some bigtime customizer, he was a backyard builder like most of the people on here...so no...Im sure the name recognition might be a lil less than your Barris or Hines but...For a backyard builder people sure knew who he was. Have I heard of you? Has anyone? Doubtful...Oh right, youre the guy with the big mouth that lives by the Mr. Gasket plant. Oh yeah, with the "coupe". You're my hero...

My point is you might not be a bad guy, but you dissed Fonze more than a lil bit here, and you obviously dont have a clue as to what you are talking about. Even though you are so awesome, you have a "coupe".

  23. I dunno, people who take credit for other peoples cars!!
Man when I built the Doane Spencer roadster and the McPhail roadster then Bob Hirohata's Merc it'd piss me off if someone else claimed them......................

You mean Gas Monkey isn't taking credit for the build. I was standing there when he bought that trainwreck.

DeRosa = super talented dude who built some cool stuff and a very nice guy, but I sure don't like that thing.

I wasn't one of those people. I voiced my opinion and Fonzi fans jumped up my ass. I still say his Merc is ugly. My car opinions are based on history and, because of the fact that I am a designer to the bone, design. Proportion, flow and appealing innovation are key elements for me. I will admit that there are plenty of people who like cars purely for their "HEY LOOK AT ME" factor. Those things don't make either of us right or wrong, just different.

As for the comments about Fonzi being famous - because people know who he is doesn't make the car look good. Take Barris for example.

Also, this site is a forum, which means "a place, meeting or medium where ideas on a particular issue can be exchanged and discussed." Discussion rarely means everyone only praising or agreeing with whatever the subject is. Discussion is usually the voicing of varied opinions and supporting your point of view. I'm really tired of the fucking whiners on here who can't take criticism. If you don't want to possibly hear a negative opinion, don't post here...or anywhere. In fact, you should steer clear of conversing with other humans - most of them have opinions. Stick to talking to yourself in the mirror.

Thank god not everyone has the same point of view and opinion!!!!
