I too have been to Rick and Randys shop and have never heard of them taking credit for the shark. I have seen it up close and man it is a BONDO queen and poorly built. Rick does a lot of cool shit in Denver fot the Hot Rod/ Custom car scene. He is having a Car show in a couple of weeks for FREE with live bands and all kinds of activities. You all must realize Rick broke his back a while ago and is lucky to still build cars and if you go there at midnight on a tuesday night looking for help those Mother Fuckers are there to help you. Want to know how they did it. They will tell you and show you how. Yea I'm sure they are not saints but their not priests either they have never fucked this boy.

    KIRK,
I tottally agree... I used the FONZI merc as an example to raise a question that has me perplexed.

You take one car, THE SHARK, that is a done show car and guys say its shit.

You take another car, FONZIS MERC, that is a pile of shit and guys pine over it like its the best car ever built.

Then ask a question and it becomes a crap throwing contest be cause FONZI was a great guy.

I never said anything about the man himself, I never met him nor will i god rest his soul.

I will ask my original question once more.............

WHY BASH DeRosa'S CAR WHEN YOU GUYS YHINK FONZIS CAR IS A NICE CAR ??

And to answer the original question, Who cares if the guy takes credit for the SHARK, We all know who built it and its just like CODDINGTON taking credit for the cars that come from his shop... That he never touches.

    from nowhere...

After reading this thread...I realized something profound...but I don't remember it because I was laughing too hard.:D

I must say, though...and this is all: it DOES seem like a double standard comes into play, Do we love people who build "backyard" cars? or disdain them? it DOES seem like it depends on whether we know them or like them...I, myself, don't love or hate people who build cars...I DO love, or hate certain cars...strangely, I ain't much for Caddy's that look like Sharks, or ANY '49 - '51 Merc's...but, I don't want to fight about it. I think everyone here that was bad-mouthing the Fonzi merc, was doing just that. Not the man who built it.

  4. thank you.

Wow, what a slick retort. A butchered quote and some emoticons. I see you really have the intellect to stand by what you said. Jackass. Maybe a little less disrespecting people and a little more effort keeping your car out of the wall. It would appear to me there isn't a ton of brainpower on that end of the screen to begin with.

I hate to get involved in all this drama......BUT!
you guys know my opinion on Fonz, from the mentioned thread, I love the guy, knew and hung with him for many years.
I went to the Oakland Roadster show back in 93. Was fortunate inough to have Frank Livingston stake me around to some of the 'local' shops during my visit ther (one of the highlights of my life). We visited DeRosa's shop.
I gotta say, I was not impressed with their quality of work. In fact I might just say that it was a bit above Fonz's quality...the finish work was better, but the metal work???????
Case in point, they were using REBAR to define a peak on top of the front fenders of a car. Rebar for the peak, held up by short pieces of rebar to put it at the correct height. There was some threaded rod in there as well. They were filling in the rest of the shape with plastic. No metal bridging the gap from the rebar, to the fender top. Over an inch difference.
That kind of work is about the same quality as Joe's. Joe just never finished off the bondo as nicely.
Both builders have an eye for style, and build it that way, both are over the top, and both leave a little to be desired in the metalworking arena.

I "borrowed" The Sharkmobile when I was about 12 from in front of the house. I remember being pissed off about something Frankie taunted me about so I lost my everlovin' mind for a minute and took the keys off the table, glanced at my dad on the couch taking a siesta and grabbed the huge Webster Dictionary so that I could see over the dash and was outtathere! As I pulled away from the house I remember thinking "I can do whatever stupid boys could do" and turned the radio up and as I was haulin' ass down the main drag...Railroad Avenue...I quickly was pulled over and I knew then I was too young to die! I was so lucky! He let me drive it back to where I "borrowed with permission" from all the while following me close...As I pulled the Shark EXACTLY where I had "borrowed" it from the cop said something like "If that mean ole' man knew it was gone, he'd be out here now wavin a gun or something so I think you're safe so I am gonna let you go this time!"

Bob Bowen bought the Sharkmobile and the Golden Pirhana soon after I "borrowed" the landshark.

Bottomline; like ir or hate it...couldn't give a damn. It like everything else was always built by my dad with a "go fuck yourself" attitude. "Be a leader not a follower and always show respect."

I had the BEST times cruisin' with my dad. We'd go for ice cream and just have the best times listening to peoples reactions and giggling about it as we drove away......
