If the ad is still up, it hasn't sold. So that's the current asking price. Not the current selling price.

I think if you want that kind of money, you should invest in having it detailed. Not in that condition. Lots of wagons cheaper than that one.

Yes. If it's bagged and it has a blown big block and a $15000 paintjob.

They are getting quite pricey, and that one does appear to be really nice, but the seller is a complete moron for putting it up for sale with those absolutely dogshit pictures. If it was washed and properly lit, there probably wouldn't be as much shock at the price. Probably still priced high but not insanely, if it's as nice as it looks under all that dirt.

Maybe the guy who owns it has read all the posts about washing barn finds.
    Dust has value.
    Good looking wagon, but 32k?

  7. NADA says high retail is $49K, average is $21K.... and that's for a base model. Way more than I'd pay for a 4-dr wagon.

That looks to be a nice original car. Looks to be og paint and correct hubcaps, likely an unmolested beauty under that dust.

Yes price seems way high but it is probably worth half of that.

Ahhhhh NO, unless you just hit the Mega Ball and had money to spread around.
It is nice, but seems to just be a nice stocker, with that money one would expect a none builder with OT LS Motors, computers, bags, full leather interior and, and, and,
    $3,200 to $6,000 (to me it's a $2500, but I am cheap)

I think it's way overpriced. HRP

I doubt that one would bring 32K at Barrett Jackson in Las Vegas today but Jalopy Joker may be spot on in that the guy with it for sale is shooting for that market.
I've got to agree that anyone asking that much money for that car should have run it through a detail shop and had it spiffed up and then take it somewhere you can take decent photos of it in, out and under the hood.

papajohn has it right. 32K for a 6 cylinder original car would be highway robbery. $3200 to me might be closer to its actual value. It will be a cold day in Hell before anyone would pay 32K for that.
Crazy Steve, the Hagerty numbers are not for unrestored originals.

Auction show pricing syndrome. Completely unconnected with reality. Somebody pulls a ratbox out of their granmas' back yard, puts a battery and new plug wires on and thinks it's worth 30 thousand dollars. Seats full of mouse piss and rusted out floors, busted windows and some hooptie wheels and tires.

I'm a long roof guy at heart. Had a '65 Falcon 2 door wagon in HS. I would like another wagon so I'm always lurking but 32 K seems real pricey compared to others I've seen in SoCal.

Looks solid and a great year. I’d say 10-15 but you never know someone could have deeper pockets than me. Wait a lot of people do.

  25. I don't know about Hagerty but from the NADA site...
High retail: This vehicle would be in excellent condition overall. It could be a completely restored or an extremely well-maintained original vehicle showing very minimal wear.
Average retail: This vehicle would be in good condition overall. It could be an older restoration or a well-maintained original vehicle. Completely operable. The exterior paint, trim and mechanics are presentable and serviceable inside and out. A “20-footer”.

Whether or not that's an accurate estimate of actual selling prices I can't say, but this is what many sellers base their asking prices off of. I assume rarity is a big factor, but it's a limited market too, so....

Don't get the idea I'm defending the asking price, just that I'm pointing out where the seller probably got it.

There just aren't many clean original 50s wagons around any more, especially with the bitchin styling of the 59 Chevy. If you really want one, $15-20k would be a reasonable price to pay. Seeing what some guys spend fixing up old cars, and how popular the nice unrestored bodies are these days, I can see asking that much, as a starting point.

There are a lot of idiots with money, who watch those shows on TV.

  27. I'll also point out that NADA further states that those prices DON'T represent a flawlessly restored, museum-quality '100 point' car.

  28. Clean it up, take a few real good pix and at $16k it would be gone in a day.

:D agree with Jim. Misfits and Gas Monkey garage sometimes pay way too much for projects and ask for the moon. Dreamer selling prices and reality are usually far apart.
