Sometimes I got confused about prices up there in the US. Most would be willing to pay crazy amounts of money for a rotten coupe body and a nice Tudor like this one is worth close to nothing for many ? Am I trying to convince myself that my 34' Tudor is the best project ever.... =|
I'd be on it like stink on shit. But of course try to haggle. If I had the money, room, or lived close. Looks live a very nice car for the money. Spend about $3k on it and update a little bit (maybe mechanically). Enjoy it or sell it.
I really do think it's worth every penny if the body is as straight as it looks from here. Body work is time consuming, hard and painful. If it's rust free and straight, I really think a $2-3K premium is nothing when you compare it to the hours of cutting, welding, filling and sanding you might do on another car. No offense to anyone meant, different folks have different points of view on this stuff. It just turns out that, I have spent the last year getting the body on my 51 to what it could have been for another $2K originall investment. You'll have a crap load in whatever you build, be it money, time or both. I will never again skimp on the initial investment, which often tends to be almost negligible in the end.
look at it this way. It was not a high end repaint body may be full of mud. it cant mean that much to him if it has sat for 7 years. most here say they will buy it but dont have 2 nickels to buy parts to finish cars they have. i would not pay more then $4000 for it in a non running state dont get cought up in the "im saving some thing old" if it is not the car you want pass on it. if you want to make money get it running and sell it on ebay but buy it right. some people on here can build a "car" for under $3000 but others have over $6000 in just the raw parts. take this for what it is worth
Hell yes. Go for it. But be sure the floors and trunk aren't rusted out. Have the windows been open? I built my first rod from a similar car but it was in drivable condition and had been stored indoors. Cars like these have all the stuff you CAN'T get as repops, like window garnish and regulators, the headliner hoops, a good back seat, the hood hinges, trunk support, etc. For example, you simply can't get kick plates for 4-door 37 Fords - as was my case. Thank the stars I had mine and they were restorable - as even 2-door repops are deplorable. My car wasn't pretty, but it wasn't missing one bolt and that has to be worth something, eh? Even if you part it out... you can make money and I bet the guy's price can come down a little. I bet the grille alone is worth 1000 bucks, eh? Price a glass Deuce body lately? Gary
I think that car is bad ass as described. To me, original steel isn't worth quabbling over a few bucks. Cars as solid as that with (as described) all original solid steel aren't found everyday.
Hey James427, yes it's worth 7 grand........... I know this car, it's got a Merc crank in it. It ran really, really well before. That motor is in pristine condition, b/c when I saw it had like 42K miles on it, so it hasn't been driven much. Last I saw it on the road was 98 or 99 i think.............. BUY IT, ORr I Will.
Well he hasn't agreed to release it from the backyard jail yet, but he's getting close. I've been talking to him for over 8 years about this car so hopefully it won't be much longer. It's not so much the price for him as it is letting go of "dad". I'm sure we can all understand that. Too bad the car has to suffer for it though. If you remember this car then you know how really nice it was when it was parked there.
He's doing his dad's memory a disservice by letting it sit. Tell him you want to restore it to the condition it was. Tell him you want to make it something his dad would be proud of.
I don't ever reply to these "what is it worth posts" because I'm a cheapskate that is always behind the current prices. I'm really surprised by the number of people that think this car is over priced by nearly 3000. Buy a 4000 striped out hulk on a frame and try to make a car out of it for another 3000. It won't happen. A car that complete will save you a lot of nickels and dimes that add up to big bucks. I'd still have 6000 in one pocket to prove that I'm serious, 500 in another pocket and 500 in yet another. It's easy to turn down verbal offers. It's more difficult to turn down dead green presidents right before your eyes. It's just bidnez. JMHO
Hell form what I seen on some of these classifieds Hell yes its a good deal. Damn some websites have those rims and tires going for 350 dollars each. These cars are going up in price everyday...talk him down a little and see how low you can go and if not well if you like it then get it. Im sure I paid a little more than others would have paid but I wanted it...buy it...looks cool to me and sell the parts you dont use...Im sure someone would buy them on here, it a solid looking car
yep i think its worth 7k for the rust free body/fenders alone - try finding decent rust free fenders for something like that, they alone would command half the money the guy is asking for. as someone else says, take a fresh battery & some fuel - bolt the rebuilt carb on and see if it will start... beware though if it does the price might go up
I can't beleive all the low ballers for the 4 to 5 grand. Is this an economy thing? Yes, I would buy it for $7000 and I sure do not need another car around here. For sitting outside for 10 years, the paint looks pretty good. Any bad bodywork should be showing by now. The motor is a 21 stud and I don't get too excited about them but if it isn't stuck, use it. Brakes are mechanical so not much to do there unless you want to change to hydraulic. I am interested in what all you guys are finding for $5000. Wait another year and someone else will buy it. I would doubt it will get any cheaper. If you are still wondering if it is a good deal, list the guy's phone number here and see how fast someone buys it. Neal
If you have $7K and a place to put it, buy it. You can clean it up, store it, whatever, and probably turn a profit eventually. If you don't have the money or a place to put it, find a friend that does and turn him on to it. No sense letting a nice car rot out in the open.
I think it's worth $7K, but if you could get it for between 5 and 6 then it would be a good deal. I'd say buy it even if he doesn't come down anymore if you really like it. Slant backs are awesome.
This shit drives me in-fucking-sane. Everytime I see some dick-weed do this to a car I just want to walk up and knock the shit out of em. The car was well worth 7k before he let it go to shit and I would hope you could get it bought for less. But heres the deal if you don't make a deal of some sorts and get it bought somebody else will. And they will probably pay what he wants as somebody else will walk up to the car now and visualize what the finished product will look like and not have a clue how it used to look all the time before it was being neglected.
I see all of the Cali, Texas and NM guys say nay. You boys take alot (car-wise) for granted. (nothing personal ) Rust free carries a high value all its own. The car is assembled, so you know its COMPLETE. It will most likely run and drive with a (very) little work. Thats a 7K car boys. If you dont believe me......... find another complete, rust free slantback with 46K on the clock. Buy it and have it shipped to this guys door.
Tell him "I dont think your dad would want that car sittin outside, rotting away, and getting all the glass knocked out of it".
I've had that conversation with him many times. And he admits it is not the best situation and knows that his actions are not best for the car. But it still sits there. And for all you guys saying it's definatley worth the $7K, I bet if I had it listed on the hamb for that much I'd get no takers, lol.
Make him an offer at $4000, then he'll say $5000 but only make the deal if he offers to throw in the salad shredder.
It will be one of those deals that if you don't want to pay $7,000 then it can just stay right where it is. Cash won't matter because I've been to his house with a wad of cash before.
Maybe my memory is faulty, but it seems like you've asked a couple of value questions on this board. So my answer is how much value is in an alliance membership? Probably quite a bit if you're using the expertise here to move prices up or down by a couple Gs
