Well--yea--I guess.I've had my car in quite a few commercials, videos, and a couple movies--plus it's been on a rod run t-shirt,the cover of American Rodder Swimsuit 1998 issue--plus it was done as a painting--high buck painting,I'm told--and the painting is hanging--this is too bitchin'--in the Ventura Police Dept conference room!!First commercial I did was aToyota commercial--went from 5:00pm Friday till 3:00am Sat--$500.00 a day plus an extra $200.00 for late-night crap.Turns out--the commercial was for the Japaneze market--never ran in US.Some of you guys back on the East coast may have seen a Bell Atlantic one--guys playing basketball by a mansion with my coupe and Dean Jeffies chopped and sectioned 34 sedan. That was filmed in Pasadena .It even go on a bubble gum-type trading card once!So I guess I got lucky cause the movie guys liked my car.I still do small stuff abourt once a year--I still see a commercial late at night sometimes with my car--feels great!!!
Holy post dig! SEMA SAN borrowed several photos of my A during the build. It's been a small shot in a number of publications in bare steel, and the bare chassis, but hadn't seen anything in a few years. A month or two ago my wife brought my new copy of R&C from the mailbox, and while flipping through it I came across a SAN ad that looked strangely familiar... HEY LOOK! THERE'S MY CHASSIS AGAIN!!!
I got on the news a week after 9/11 for painting my roadster, a friends coupe, and a 68 camaro all red, whie and blue for a local car show in San diego.
Closest I ever got was that a film company used the hood scoop off of one of my cars and stuck it on a Saab in the Canadian movie "Dance me outside" filmed here. It was on screen about 5 seconds......autographs line up to the left.
Cool thread I Owen the Hamberis & Mitchell 33 willys, also known as the Hippie car from the Gasser wars. Car is now run on the street in England.
When i was into Chevy II's i had 2 that were used for promotional purposes with National Nostalgic Nova plus made a couple spreads then I had bought a 64 Rivi from Cali that was in a couple videos (music too) & old lowrider/R&C mags waay before i got it.
only if the evening news counts? one my wifes former cars was involved in a driveby and high speed pursuit that lets say didnt work as planned for the hero in question!
tredboy, Too much trouble, the price was to high, to them use use my '27 Ford tudor in the movie "The Rocketeer'. They wanted me to change the tires and wheels to some plan janes, that I could do then they tell me some bozo would be driving and not me. I started the '27 and left. CRUISER
Years ago my stock car made it onto a highlight reel, I think it was on the old Motorweek Illustrated show. Some dumb-ass running inside of me on a turn lost it and put me into the wall. Great....
ummm -dunno- maybe? Its been on the MA RMV insert that went out to like 300,000 people, on Spike TV and in about 20 major high end 'look at me' shows around here. Also been on the World of Wheels Boston T shirt and some other Northeast car clubs shirt. OH yeah and its also a DUB car toy.Rightdown to the 'burple' flames... and dust! spoiled brat that it is.
My coup was on "The Exciting World Of Speed And Beauty" which Elki Summer hosted. This was in '83 or '84 at the first two day El Mirage meet. Bonneville having been under water for two years. In '84 it made the SLC TV news Speedweek coverage and was in 8 magazine storys about Drags, Salt ans Dirt that I saw. The roadster has been in a few Magazines and my Vega was on the front page of National Dragster once parked behind the car they were taking the pictire of. At one time Brett Kepner asked me to bring the roadster over to where he hangs out by the long course for some TV. I didn't and I think that irrateted him. To bad 'cause he seemed like an alright guy before that. Some Britt rag did a feature on the roadster from which I got this picture by Email from Australia
My car was used on the cover for an engineering trade magazine. I trailered it to a studio on the rainiest day of the year. It took quite a while drying it off. I think I got paid like $250 and all the copies I wanted. The studio also made me some large prints of just the photos of my car. It was a good time.
I don't think famous but perhaps infamous It was mentioned at the Drags this year that I couldn't let the Pusher go back to the farm because it was my signature car (truck). So even if it isn't famous it is known by at least a handful of the HAMB old timers. Never the less its pretty damned cool that someone wanted to use your car in a TV show, that puts you right up there with TV Tommy. You aint thinkin' about buildin' somethin' with 4 engines are ya?
Only in my mind and thats a wide open space. _________________________________________________________________ Like I told the kid, "Your music's not too loud, it just sucks and so does OKC!"
my barbque grill made it onto an NHRA today feature with steve evans and was also used in an autolite spark plug promotion out in indy one year ..yes it was a real AA/FD back in 64, no it wasn't raceable or restorable! so I just put a charbroil grill on it made some fake heads & headers threw on an old scoop and hit the propane tank under the body. then lettered it AA/FBBQ
My Father-in-Law's car was on the cover and centerfold of issue #14 of Jesse James' magazine "Garage". See also, the HAMB thread "About Ray Cass"
My '56 Caddy chopped convert was in a horror movie, filmed in Kalamazoo, that was never released, even to video. Now THAT's Lame!
My '57 Ford Ranchero was used in the movies, Big Wednesday, and Prizzi's Honor. I don't think it makes it famous but it was still fun. CBB
