Isky picture thread

  1. I will never forget something I saw a couple of years ago at the CA Hot Rod Reunion when Ed was the grand marshall. I was sitting in the stands about 1/4 track. A couple of cars were backing up after their burnouts when I heard the loud roar of a car headed our way. I looked down to see Ed blasting down the return road in his T roadster, full on the gas, big grin on his face, a ninety something year old hot rodder in the T he build when he was a teenager. One of the coolest things I've ever seen!
Here are a few pics from his shop. He showed us one machine that has made a million dollars of flathead cams.

Ed is truly one of the nicest men I have ever met. World would be a better place if more were like him. Here is a plastic sign and peterson book rack that he hooked me up with. The must have been in the showroom for decades.

Ed was kind enough to step over and sign the dash on my 55 at the September meet at Bonneville. I love the sound of a strong Y block with an Isky cam!

The show "American Icon: The Hot Rod', there was a great section on the history of Isky Clams

I met Ed at a 'Forever Four' event in So Cal years ago...visited a few times, always the gentleman host.

Once in 1980, a guy dropped in with a technical question...he had an Isky cam with a number that wasn't anywhere in the Isky book. I said, "Let me call, I'll find out for you."

He stood there in my office, while I called: I got Isky on the phone, gabbed for a minute, then asked him what was what with the cam numbers...He said, "That was an 'extra' we ran in '64, never got into the book. It has a lift of.....and duration was...
Man! Rattled it off like he'd just ground it.

The customer was in shock. "You just talked to Isky????"

Isky is a giant. We are blessed to live in his era. Thank you, Ed, for being alive.
Would that it could always be so.

I would cherish one of his cams.

  18. I always wanted a cam as a kid
20 plus years later I was in stock cars and pretty broke
bought a Isky on a garage sale cheep price mail order and it hauled ***
but I was unfortunate and flattened a lobe and bought other cams off those specs and did a fair job of racing with no dollars
so I finally had my Isky cam even if it was only for a short time:D

seen his roadster at the NHRA museum was in awe of that neat machine:)

Nothing like Isky I love reading the articles and magazine ads. He was a pioneer to say the least. With his products and advertising. No other cam compares. I was thinking about painting my car one color no graphics but there might be some room for some Isky cans somewhere in the car.

Came over for the LA Roadster Show a couple weeks back, and ran into Ed out at El Mirage. Asked him if it was OK to come by the shop that week to have a look around. We ended up getting a full tour thru' the place with Isky hisself, took him out for lunch and got to hang with Nick Arias as well. Spent around 3 hours there, got a whole bunch of stuff including autographed T-shirts, and gained a hell of a respect for a way cool 93 year old who is still sharp as a tack.
Thanks for the experience, Camfather - it was definitely the highlight of our trip!:)

Just found another Isky picture in my files. This was Ed at a visit to Clackamas Community College last year. Not too many in the crowd that didn't have white hair, or no hair! ;)
