  1. Not sure this project will continue in a "HAMB-friendly" direction . . . but thought it worth posting here . . .

    Video #1 (Project Introduction):

  2. Hmmm, if the builder is in fact recreating the original Isky T bucket then one would think he’d have a flathead in it. However if it goes the other way then not so much.

That family builds some stellar racecars. I’m pretty nervous about what they’ll do with the T though. Time will tell.

I watched most of the video the other day .... they were talking about using fuel injection disguised as carburetors. The goal is too make it look period correct while using modern goodies.

I love watching Alex & Dennis .... great people .... The car will not stay hamb friendly.

The whole basis of hot rodding is getting the next best thing when it comes to performance. That’s always been the goal of traditional hot rodding.
Waiting for the Speedway haters to post!

Exactly. No different than 5 speed transmissions behind flatheads and 350’s disguised to look like 283’s. Won’t sit well with the time period restorationists but cool nonetheless.

I doubt if anyone in the Dennis Taylor family has a flathead engine even in their lawn care equipment!

  8. I had to look the guy up, given what he was saying about the original Isky build. Mmm, I don't think anything early Ford is remotely in his wheelhouse.

Must be some commercial arrangement reason as to why he's part of this. Doesn't seem a natural fit.

It’s absolutely because of a relationship with Isky Cams.

My favorite magazine article of all time was in the Jan 73 25th anniv issue of Hot Rod. They went to Isky's shop and dug the old roadster out , got it running and Ed took it for a lap around the block, A real heartwarming story. This recreation with modern things thrown in will be the same thing as painting a moustache on the Mona Lisa.... YUK

I quit watching when they started talking about putting a Godzilla engine in it. Essentially an LS but from Ford, and with more displacement. Not far removed from putting a Tesla powertrain in it, in my opinion.

Not interested in it, and this thread should be removed from the HAMB. It’s essentially a 2023 version of a 90’s street rod, except they won’t paint it peach or put those goofy heartbeat strips on it. Probably no billet, either.

  13. Welp. Im all for folks building what they like.
If their customer wants a T that if you squint or stay far enough back it looks kinda like the “original” then so be it.
    a recreation? Nope
    Inspired? That would fit better.

I have always loved that T bucket roadster, that ISKY built.

It's a one of a kind machine, and the thought of recreating it and putting a "GODZILLA" modern day engine in it, that seems to be a NOT well thought out, insult to ISKY and the car itself !

    The ISKY roadster.
" Often imitated, never truly duplicated "
    Just sayin !

  16. NOTE: "Their Customer" is ISKY RACING CAMS logo.jpg (to put in their booth a SEMA 2023) ... and Ed Iskenderian is completely onboard with this entire project ... considering his original car is now a "museum piece" (to honor his legacy & to preserve Hot Rodding history for future generations), Ed suggested they put a modern powertrain in this "re-creation" inspired by his original roadster ... because that's exactly what he did in 1937 (i.e., swapped the car's broken 4-banger in favor of a '32 Ford V8 ... with an Ed Winfield cam, Maxi F-type OHV heads & an Edelbrock Slingshot intake).

Modern Godzilla engine ? I lean toward the original Rajo T version. 890943.jpg fullsizeoutput_2ac.jpeg

  19. Then don't watch the videos ... and don't bother following this thread.

I take offence that you suggest this thread should be removed from the HAMB . . . 'cuz (so far) this thread has included ZERO "Non-HAMB-Friendly" visual content.

Believe me, I'm fully aware that if I ever posted images or video footage showing the "Non-HAMB-Friendly" aspects of this build, the Moderators would shut this thread down in a heartbeat ... so IF or WHEN this build drifts to far away from being a "Traditionally Inspired" Hot Rod, I'll shut the thread down myself.

P.S.: I like '59 F100 pickups as much as the next guy (I helped my neighbor restore his) ... but IMHO, the one pictured in your avatar is far from ever being considered a "Traditional" Hot Rod or Custom (i.e., the focus of the H.A.M.B.) ... Then again, I haven't read ANY of your posts about your plans for it ... who knows, perhaps someday it's going to be a traditional '60s custom show truck, a '60s Wheelstander, or a Vintage Pickup class Bonneville racer ... so maybe I should've just refrained from commenting about it  :D.

  20. NOTE: That's not Isky's T ... it's John Athan's T ... before John sold it to Ed with the broken Banger:

  22. If they’re going to build this as a ‘recreation’ they need to look up what that word means.
It’s a pretty worn out word these days, but tribute would be more accurate.

Of course, who cares what I think, it’s all a done deal and water under the bridge now.

Damn right. Come on people, hot rodders back in the day were all about Go Fast, how many times do we have to review this? It's the old Flathead vs. OHV debate, pretty much all of the first generation hot rodders happily replaced their flatheads with the better performing newfangled OHV's.

Unfortunately for HAMB-friendly traditional viewing, there will be no hood to keep closed, and there is the rub. Put me in the "put in the latest EFI mill that values a high ratio of 'high performance/engine maintenance' " group, along with Ed.
The custom guys seem to have a Rule #1 which is "Keep the hood closed" and that rule works really well here on the HAMB for hot rods as well. So, please understand that I fully embrace the very restrictive Ryan's World rules here - thank God for the HAMB - while at the same time embracing the original hot rodders' spirit (that @denis4x4
invokes). Todd @HEMI32 brings this project to our HAMB-worthy attention because - Duh - is it an ISKY project with Ed's blesssing. Pretty fucking cool.

yeah, the Hamb is not the place for a build like this... It sure would be if it were a TRUE recreation but it is not... please do not post further on it. If people are interested they can follow the videos themselves
