I haven't left the house. Pouring rain and pretty darn chilly here.

I haven't taken the top off since the car was completed, but if I did it would look pretty much like this:

upload_2022-11-27_4-4-10.png Bridget Mendler video “Ready Or Not”

    Hello,

Our granddaughter stayed with us 5-6 days a week from 6 months to grade 5. Her parents just had gotten new jobs, they were filled with all sorts of anxiety for new parents and completely new job workers. So, in steps two old folks with experience being great parents and getting close to retiring, anyway.

Part of our daily routine was to listen to music and dance around when she was old enough to move with style. She had style from age 2 on and continues to this day, as a senior in high school. She is also an accomplished dancer with a ballet emphasis. She is in line to get a scholarship and entry into a 4 year university as a dancer. So, not the NCAA athletic programs, but leaning toward the cultural side.

We listened to what she liked, enlarged our music library, had mp3 versions for playback whenever she was riding in the station wagon and wanted some music. Over time, we actually liked the pre-teen pop music as it was a good way to do mundane chores in the yard or wash down the sailboat after a grueling day of sailing in 16-18 knots of wind. So, we became afficionados of pop music.

Bridget Mendler was a Disney star that became a singer and created a whole new generation of fans to help her career along. Pop music had now grown into our culture, just like old time rock and roll.

I ran across this video of the song “Ready or Not,” a song that boosted her career by leaps and bounds. Since the next rain system is not going to hit the Westcoast for a while, it is actually warmer and the sun is hotter than the listed temperature. The ocean/beach environment is ripe for convertible cruising. So, there seems to be more convertibles out cruising that we have seen lately. It is warm enough for some top down cruising.

Ready or Not, (a song title in 1996 By The Fugees, Wycliff Jean and Lauren Hill) was adapted to a new version by Bridget Mendler in 2012 was one of the most popular songs of their days. We have both in our mp3 list. The Fugees version is hard to compete with the smooth sounds of Wycliff Jean and Lauren Hill.

upload_2022-11-27_4-8-59.png The rolling star of the video.
But, the pop version has a melody that just makes anyone want to dance around and have tons of fun. By this time, our granddaughter was 7 and had specific interests. Her mom & dad actually took her and a friend to a Bridget Mendler concert among other screaming kids.

The classic 1963 Plymouth Valiant was the main cruising car used in the video. But, surprise is waiting for those that can get the modified video with information and film adaptations. YRMV

This 48 Poncho is in an upcoming auction nearby and showed up in my email last night. Looks like it could make a decent car for someone. It is currently sitting at $10k but there is still a couple weeks until the auction actually happens live here in Oklahoma...

    Hello,

The pandemic presents all sorts of opportunities. Being couped up in the house is not necessarily a bad thing. If you like where you live and what you live in for your major housing situation, then life works, whatever the difficulties or situations that head our way. Even after all that we have done to make our “locked in place” situation good, we still needed to get out to run necessary errands and take a short drive to the shoreline.

Having met/gone to a college that is very close to the ocean, the local cruising scene, and the local So Cal surf spots started it all for my wife + me back in 1966. From that day forward, despite the calamities of almost the same situation in the 1968 hectic year, of disturbances and a virus going around like the current crisis, we managed to come through it fairly, OK.

But, one thing is, our decision to stay along the coastline during our time together, has been an eye opener. So, with that in mind, we do not have to stay inside our current abode and make a short day trip to the local beaches to get a taste of our long association with the “big blue…”

On one of our road trips, we saw this cool convertible sitting by the side of the road. It was a 1962 Chevy Impala that was a stand out car on the streets. To us, it had class and styling well above the rest of the cars on the road or parked. It just stood out. not because we used to be photographers of old cars/motorcycles, but as folks that like class and style. This one was very nice in all angles.

Since the sun was out, it was also close to the coastline and we all know that the cool to cold moisture always comes inland during the afternoon and early evenings. The land cools and the moisture/fog comes on its journey until they, too, hit a wall of warmth and then the battle begins. The owner of the convertible must have been checking out the weather as the top was up.

Sure enough, within hours, the moist fog came rolling inland and would have necessitate a top up driving around, anyway. “Be prepared” is what we learned as little kids and it has stuck quite well in all aspects of our lives to this point.

Several parting shots with a digital camera created another photo for the “Hot Rod” files. It has been sitting in my files for a while, but with the incursion of the warm weather that has hit us this week, (mid 60s warmth, sun that seems hot in the direct line of fire and no jacket weather) it seemed appropriate to showcase the old 1962 convertible in its original form we saw weeks ago.

Again, the sun calls us to go see the blue ocean and all that it has to offer. A new southern hemisphere swell started hitting the shorelines of So Cal and it is smiles, everywhere. YRMV
