man, I must have missed what is goin on here....whats the deal? someone cut ya a bad check on eBay? this happened to a friend: sold a truck on eBay, it was a mid 70's chevy LWB with 250 six in it, to a fellow in Dallas Texas... I knew this truck well, it was in running condition, bought from the 2nd owner, had a lot of miles on it, the ad was specific as to what few problems the truck had.... we deliver the truck to the guys house after midnight on valentines day 2002, as to his request, he paid by credit card via pay-pal.... well, it was just a few days, when the guy suffered from what could be best described as buyers remorse, he decided that he didnt want the truck after all... letters were exchanged, along with a few threats from the guy that he would leave negative feedback if his money wasnt returned and the truck picked up, as well as the money he paid for hauling it to him... friend refused. negative feedback was left, and the guy somehow did a chargeback thru paypal, paypal then sent a bill to my friend, neither eBay or paypal would respond with anything other than what amounted to "try to work it out with the buyer"...... the guy said he would bring it back to Ft Smith arkansas and leave it at the wal mart supercenter parking lot since he had got his money back from pay pal... he didnt....he still has the truck and his money friend has a new eBay account, new pay pal account, and a new address.... money orders are quickly becoming the only way I will accept payment from buyers on eBay...
No a guy in Spain said he wanted my car he sent an Official Cashiers check that is counterfeit. The gig is you deposit or cash it and this guy wanted me to send the other $2000 of the balance to some guy for a supposed transport fee.In other words he wrties a check for $2000 more than yur asking price claiming you need to send the $2000 to his contact or himself for all you know and they make $2000.In the meanwhile you get*****ed when the bank finds the check to be a fraud and holds you liable! they are gettin pretty damn bold!! The check in a official check But when you really stop to look, you that the date is 16 Dec 2003 instead of Dec 16 2003 European And its all in typing like the old checks used to be done in with no security measures and the way he wrote it Three Thousand AND Five hundred And twenty two theres no And between thousand five hundred..
Marcus, I was trying to sell my old '40 Philco fridge online and them same*****ers from Nigeria (or so the fbi says) sent me a check....exact same scenerio. I smelled a rat right away, went to the bank with it and had them check it. they found out the next day. saved my****. They are gonna get caught sooner or later and they're*****ed when they do. nice fresh green dollars only for me now.
I've had two attempts from somebody from Nigeria trying to rope me into this scam because of a car I have for sale on Collector car trader.com The first time I wrote back "no overseas buyers, thanks"...about a month went by, and I got almost the EXACT same e-mail...same wording, etc. They have bad english and the e-mail is hard to follow even. Basically, they are willing to pay more for the car than I am asking and the deal must be done "right away" because his client is "very interrested". Yeah, right. How dumb do these people think we are? The second one I just deleted.
If I have a sincere buyer, they will WIRE the money directly into my account. There's no better way........ Flatheads forever!!
slacker, Don't ever let people wire to your account. If you give them account info, all of a sudden they can write electronic checks. ie: They can buy internet*****. Yes your bank will refund you money because of fraud but what about all those checks that you wrote that are now going to bounce. If you must do this set up a seperate account only for these type of transactions.
Yep. My father is in the middle of the same*****. Exactly the same scenario with the extra $2G's on the cheque. The guy was getting belligerent with my old man when he wouldn't ship the car before the cheque cleared. Came back counterfeit and now the RCMP are involved.
We've seen this scam about 100 times on the scooter bbs. People have been posting the e-mail address of the scammer and we've been flooding them with spam and hate mail. Stacey
At least twice a week, one of our customers will get a huge order of Autometer gauges... usually 30-40 tachs and misc gauges. Of coures, its a big scam. I think this one is out of Indonesia. 9 times out of 10 the guys just forget about the order. The 10th guys usually lose $2000-$3000 even after we tell them...
