Anytime you drill, saw into a finished paint job you are asking for trouble. I remember chopping my Model A back in the 70's. It was a finished car that I became bored with and wanted to chop it. The first cut was like cutting into my arm.
Well I had that same feeling yesterday drilling into the sides of my roadster. I wanted to ad side curtain body sockets. Drilling that first of eight holes was a hold your breath moment. I probably made more of it than I should. Here are the results. Thanks to Eric Justus for supplying the measurements off his original beautiful Deuce Roadster. Got to love the HAMB.:) IMG_4346.JPG IMG_4348.JPG IMG_4352.JPG IMG_4350.JPG IMG_4356.JPG IMG_4358.JPG IMG_4362.JPG IMG_4368.JPG

Measure twice drill once or is measure 3 times......sometimes no matter what...you get that feeling...and then there's the Other Side and don't forget its mirrored...

So did they just pop in, screw in I can't imagine there was a hammer involved?

    They look great @ct1932ford

I would'a been tempted to tape the whole damn thing off...twice.
Don't feel alone in your apprehension. My mind always goes to possible tragedy. Like imagining running the drill across the whole body like Steve Martin did with the buffer in The Jerk.
    But you didn't do that...lol.

I'd have drilled just one in the wrong spot by a couple of mm no matter how carefully I laid them out... Nice work, and you're a brave man.

Not many things I like better with the top on... but good job on the roadster.

Nice job-always scary to drill on a finished car. Have done it a few times and get very nervous!!

^^^ yep! Gotta drill on a 39 woody pretty soon-on the body metal and the woodgrain dash as well-makes me very nervous.

You hot rod hoodlum, you just gotta drill holes in pristine 87 year old sheet metal! :D

It appears you succeeded without so much as a chip in the paint. HRP

Nice job! Are those little pop in caps for when you aren't using the side curtains? I have the holes for side curtains in the doors of my 31 and wondered if there was something I could put in there? That looks like the ticket! Where did you get them if I may ask?

My 56 came with a radio but no antenna. The gentleman who built the car was going to put in on the rear fender which was an option. He didn't use the original front fenders so there was no hole on the right near the windshield. I bought a replacement front antenna, marked the hole, got out the saw. then said screw it and mounted it under the right door on the frame on a bracket I made.....Couldn't drill the hole and it makes it easier to put on the cover in the garage....no guts...

I have used hidden/under dash antenna on a couple of vehicles with good results.

Meant to say I have been reluctant to drill my doors for the side curtains but got side tracked. Guess they'll last longer in the box. Really haven't needed them (yet!).

Nice job, one that would make my hands shake so much that would have to sit down and rethink the whole deal. No pun intended.

Yes, there is a hammer involved but not much force, just a light touch with the punch.

I figured tape may be an issue pulling off paint around holes, so I laid the tape out on a table first and did all the measuring there. The tape was not that sticky that way.

Nice job--I run the tape across my pants leg a few times to take the sticky away somewhat too
