As an enthusuiastic 14 year old custom fanatic in the 50's, I started doing pinstriping for spare change. When I moved to the big city, I went downtown to show my model car customs at Daryl Starbird's show (Kansas City 1960). Ed Roth had just arrived with the Outlaw. He was by himself, so I offered to help him unload it. He liked my models and actually let me set up my card table display inside the ropes with the Outlaw! I watched him paint shirts and fetched him hot dogs all weekend. He showed me how to paint shirts and by the time he came back to town the next year with the Beatnik Bandit for Ray Farhner's show, I was his friendly competition.

I airbrushed at the shows for decades, but for the past twelve years, I have had airbrush stores in a couple of the malls here in Phoenix. I love to do airbrush car portraits and create freaky customs using Photoshop. I will post some of these as I figure out how to do it.

    Tom,

Nice to see you here on the HAMB. Glad to hear you're doing well.

I was always a fan of yours in KC. As a kid, my friends and I spent hours watching you paint shirts at shows. You were always so patient with us "fans", and let us hang around as much as we wanted. I really appreciated that. I remember a Tom Davison shirt of your car as one of the coolest things a guy could have. I think my Dad got one at "Line Chasin" in '72(?) I finally got one of my own when I was a teenager, and I still have it framed.

I hope you can post up some of your artwork in the Friday posts.

Brad, would you be a son of one of the Mallory twins? They were a pair of the nicest hot rodders I ever met. They were never together and I never knew which one I was talking to!! Thanks for the kind words.

30 Roadster, I have figured out how to post photos (it's easy) and have already thrown up a few. Just do a search for my name. I will post some art on the Friday show thread.

Meatball, Thanks for the welcoming PM. If you are up in Phoenix, my shop is in the Desert Sky Mall across from Steve & Barry's. Stop in and say hi.

    Tom,

I'm Steve's son. He has the '47 Woodie, but they both showed the '46 sedan in those early years. Dad still has the sedan, too.

    Welcome to the HAMB.

Brad, I suppose it was way back (before you probably) when they both were around at the same time. The last time I saw your Dad was Columbus in about '95. Tell him and your mom Hi for me. Does he come on here?

Tom, He's a lurker, but never put up an intro and doesn't like to post. I'll pass on your greetings to them.
