There is a local shop that works on alot of old rides . I spy some motors in a crate , and ask the question are those for sale ? What are ya gunna do w/ those ? The owner tells me the motor and trans , a 302-c/4 was in a 32 roadster and the guy really wanted a 351 . He tells me the 302 is the hipo model w/ a upgraded cam . we settle on a 450.00 price for the motor and trans and into the truck she went .OOH yeah it has under 3,000 miles on it . Then he tells me he has more ,guess i have to make a return visit ..
I found a dude up the road from me with a 30-31 "A" Tudor...bare body, stock frame with front end, spindle to spindle...and leaf style rear end I think it was a 10 bolt. I ask: "you wanna sell it?" he says: "Why" I say: "what do you mean why? do you want to sell it?" he says: "what do you want it for" I say: I want to build another car, I just sold mine....hell I just want the chassis..." he says: "come back in a week, I'll have a price or another on for you" Then he went on babbling about his '55 fairlane for like 10 minutes
I'm always afraid if I ask, it will be, and then I"ll have to bring it home. What a grewat "sickness" to have, good score.
Just had a call from a buddy, told him about the motor and trans score .Then he told me about his last week . He goes around to some of the machine shops around where he lives , and askes if there are any unpaid projects or ones that people just reniged on and left there . Most of the time he scores a set of heads , a block , etc .He does his rounds and one shop owner says i have an old flathead and another flatty , one has not been touched the guy went w/ a 350 instead , the other has had a bunch of work done to it . The guy got both motors and a trans for 400.00 bucks . I think its time to start visiting machine shops YA NEVER KNOW ...
