IT REALLY WORKS, BB,s in tires

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by yblock292, Jun 6, 2010.

  1. Don't the BBs move out of balance when the brakes are applied? Do they have to be driven a while to rebalance?

Yep but i bet it doesn't take more than a few blocks at the most, faster you go quicker they re-balance.

    That's pretty cool

  5. I get the same thing with the 37's on one of my vehicles. I also run the Dynabeads in my DD truck. You should see the look on the tire shop guys face when you throw the bag of pellets into the tire and tell him just to mount it up. He looks at his expensive balance machine and back at the bag of ceramic beads in the tire with disdain. It kind of makes all that $ spent on spin balancing a complete waste. And the Dynabeads keep the balance for the life of the tire. If you can mount a tire yourself there is no real need to even go to a tire shop with this stuff. Just order your tire from wherever and DO WORK!

Didn't think about the rust issue , but would probable take years to do any harm.

I learn something new every day...but then again, I'm old, so most everything I read is new...

  8. I use Dyna-beads in the bias ply Firestone big-n-littles on my '34. 4 ounces in each front and 5 ounces in the rears. No ugly weights on the rims and absolutely no vibration. All for about the same cost as having them "spin balanced" at the tire shop.

I have never heard of this, will have to give it a try. Nothing looks worse than lead weights, crimp on or tape, hanging off the wheels.

It's a sad day when you don't learn something new. What a novel concept! I'll be doing that for sure... thanks

So this has come up a number of times on the HAMB... and usually there are a number of people that I respect that claim there is no way it could work. And frankly, I can't wrap my head around how it could work... But lately I've had a pal or two convert...

    Screw it, I'm trying it.

of course these were radials....maybe thats the difference?

  19. I know where I work we sell the powder (Equal) and the tube style withthe lead shot (Centra-Matic) both seem to work out great on the truck tires. Evan had a salesman put it in his motorhome and swears by it.

  20. Uh-oh... another convert? :)

Y'all be sure to post some feedback...

Ive had 8oz's of Dyna beads sitting around for awhile but never used them. Bought an OT Jeep wrangler with 32's that had "death wobble" so I figured what could it hurt? Tires were "balanced" previously as best as they could be prior to installing the beads and the ride was ok but still not great. Vibes in the steering wheel with a slight shimmy. Wheels were straight.

The beads are a pain in the ass to install but man, what a difference! No more vibe or wobble. I can't say I completly understand how they work but I can say that for my application, they worked.

4 to 5 ounces of movable weights on the inside of the tire instead of fixed, ugly, normally lighter weights on the outside? Sounds really interesting to me...will try it!

When you put them in and roll the tire, you can hear them. But on the road, no way.

Back in the eighties I used to work for a trucking company in northern Alberta and the boss had the mechanic put a liter/quart of mixed antifreeze in the steering tires of all the highway trucks, I thought he was a little weird but i guess he was on to something.

I got to agree with that, I'm 50, and I never heard about this trick!

But it begs the question, what happens when you get new tyres fitted, and the guy pulls the air valve out, and PPHHHHhSSSsssssssssssssssss..........

..........and the balls come out badabadabadabadabadabadadadada like a machine gun?? :D

  29. I pull the valve cores out of my tires when I air down for off-roading. I have never had the dynabeads come out. Dynabeads recommends the filtered valve cores be used with their product as well. The actual beads aren't that big but much smaller than a BB or airsoft pellet. Kind of like the pelletized ant poison. The stuff makes no noise when driving. It all works off centrifical force. The stuff "seeks out" the unbalanced area and rotational/centrifical force keeps it there. This unbalanced area changes as your tire wears which is why some tires need rebalancing throughout their lifespan. Since the Dynabeads or other brand equivilant (Equal, Airsoft pellets, BBs, Golf Balls....) are not attached/fixed to any one point it rebalances the tire every time it is in motion.
