  6. Ah Good stuff! Congrats. I have 11years in,First few months is a real adjustment, You feel like your useless and not a contributor anymore but that p***es with just time. I learned a few things that helped me. One is once a week I go down to the local Restaurant for breakfast with whoever is there. Not my former coworkers but neighbours and folks who live in the area. Our restaurant has a big table that we use. Maybe 8 to 10 of us. It has been a big help to me. We do a liesurely breakfast, talk like guys do about everything and anything, argue maybe now and then but it has been good for us all. Biggest thing i find is i miiss being around people. I didnt think I liked them that much but i guess i was wrong. This helps me with that.
Do the things you dreamed of , visit old pals and travel anytime you get a reasonable urge. Remember "today" is the operative word. Tomorrow or sometime should be stricken from your mind. I wish you all the very best.

Good for you. I had planned on retiring too but my wife's company is on shakey ground plus she doesn't want to work anymore, so I put off retiring. She doesn't have a pension and won't be en***led to social security for another 4 years.

Hat's off to ya Sir for spending 30 in Law enforcement. You have seen the changes in how people act today. Your department cannot train a rookie that will be as good as you were. Your OLD SCHOOL knowledge will never be replaced. You will always think like a cop...That's a good thing, I think. Congrads.

Good for you! I retired last July and have been really enjoying it. You are going to like having time to just do what you want or maybe do nothing at all once in a while. Good Luck and enjoy.

Congrats brother. I did 35+ years at it, and am SO glad I left when I did. Must say however, the first 6 months was a tough period of adjustment.....no more rotating shift work, no more begging to be off for race weekends, time to do house things and still have time to mess with my cars.

It's been just over a year, and I don't miss it a bit. Only down side is the reduction in disposable income (cars/parts/event travel), compounded by the horrible economic downturn. I'm now looking for a 2-3 day a week something to help out, and keep up with health insurance premiums.

Enjoy it and make everyday something productive, either at home, on your car(s), or in relationships. It's a tough adjustment sometimes to not be su****ious of everyone, to not have your head on a swivel, and to be a real person.

Enjoy it Brother! I retired from the San Antonio Fire Dept 5 yrs ago with 34 yrs, the AF reserve 2 yrs ago with 38yrs. I love retirement!
    Remember when retired people say,
"I don't miss the job, but I miss some of the people I worked with."
They aren't telling the whole truth.

Congrats, Any retirement from law enforcement is well earned. Like has been said you served through a time when respect for the law and those who served went from a high regard to almost contempt. I admire your accomplishment. Now, have some fun with your interests, watch your speed and don't jaywalk.:D
