On my way to the parts counter listening to the doom and gloom about the economy and how screwed up the entire country is and how we have lost track of what made us great. Get to the parts store and I need 18" (1.5 feet) of 1/2 fuel line and 1 foot of 3/8's. Ask the counter guy to get it cut for me. He comes back, "we only sell that by the foot". I say, no, you only price that by the foot, you can cut me one and a half feet of it and then charge me one and a half foot price. He says, nope, can't do it. I fume for a second and then say "fine". As he's cutting it I'm wondering WHY I should have to pay for a half a foot of fuel line that I'm going to just cut off and throw away, when he could only cut me a foot and a half and leave the WASTED 6" on the roll that the next guy could use? A few minutes later, he shows up with 1.5 feet of the WRONG 3/8's hose and 1 foot of the 1/2 inch hose! I point out the problem and he throws the wrong hose in the trash with an at***ude and cuts me the right hose. So, we have 2" of wasted hose, a customer that probably won't use that store again, (there are 4 within 2 miles of me) and a loss for the business. Multiply that times the 50,000,000 times that sort of thing happens in this country. And we wonder.
This kind of thing happens all the time! People don't think. I have had similar things happen to me at the parts store and I refuse to go back. Not just part stores. Similar things can happen at any place. I wish people would just use common sense and pull their heads out of their ***.
I am ***uming the guy was between the ages of 18-25 making him part of generation Y. I run a business and my company sent me to a 3 day seminar on how to deal with the people in that age group that I hire. Its some scary ****, you should google it sometime.
The computer only sells it by the foot. A half foot would require the kid to do math in his head. Can you imagine 50,000,000 kids doing math in their heads. What were you thinking... Try buying breakfast at McDonalds early in the morning on a weekend and give the kid a $100.00 bill.
people just dont think for themselves anymore,,,, some things should just be common sense.. god forbid a cashier could figure out how much change to give you without punching a key that tells them,,,,pathetic,,,,and kinda sad,,,,,,
I'll admit that I part-timed when I was at Autozone when I was fresh out of highschool. If it was an old timer or someone with a cool ride that didn't give me a bunch of at***ude because I "looked young and dumb".... they'd ask for a foot and a half and I'd give 'em 2 feet and charge for 1. Yeah it's not the best for the company but on **** like that I just didn't care. Plus it made the customers happy and they always came back to me for more expensive items. It sounds like you just ran into an idiot (which happens a lot in modern auto parts stores). I used to have people ask for me by name all the time and got in trouble with my manager once because I had a line of 3 people in an empty store that wouldn't talk to anyone else but me. What can I say? It's hard to find someone that'll take the time to find you obsolete parts or cross reference wierd **** from the 40's in a modern day auto part store. lol.... Those were fun times but I wouldn't eeeeeveeeer go back. Too many dumb people on the customer side of the counter. Yikes.
tonight i took my generator down to my local car quest to have them send it out for a $125 rebuild. they told me not to, ordered me a set of brushes and told me to come back when they arrive so they can help me install them and seat them. for $3. needless to say, i drive out of my way to use this store. it hurts my feelings to walk into advanced auto or those other big stores. for all the extra 25cents here and there i have piece of mind.
Yep, got lunch today, and my change was 34 cents. The girl had a confused look on her face, and then handed me 3 dimes and 4 pennies. And yes, there were more quarters in her drawer than dimes.
Even better than that is when something cost 5.05 hand them 10.25 and watch their head spin as they try and figure out what the quarter was for.
Thats some good stuff there bud. Impress the older people by first respecting them then helping them out. Awesome! PROPS CJ STEAK. I had the same scenario with snow-birds, old people coming back a year later asking where is that young kid I want his help. Pissed off a few of my older co-workers, but hey customer service is what I was all about. Well that and learning from the older people who would come in with really odd stuff to fix.-Weeks
I needed a Cap, Rotor, Points & Condenser a couple of weeks ago, so I went to the Checkers I've been going to for years. It took the combined efforts of 3 Employees ( 4 if you count the Manager that gave me an At***ude ) to look up the Partnumbers, realise they did not have them in stock, and order them. And a full Hour to do it. Imagine it would have been a more exotic Engine than a Small Block Chevy.... I wont be back. There must be other Stores that can sell me that stuff...
Better than the @$$hole I ran into. Told him I wanted 18" of fuel line. He shrugged his shoulders, cut the hose, and charged me for 2 feet
Haha thanks man... What's funny is last week I had an old cowboy walk up to me at a gas station and say "that paper clip is still holdin'!!" I acted like I knew what he was talking about and just continued to fill up my Willys and smiled/waved to him. He seemed friendly enough. Then I saw him drive around from the other side of the gas station in an old F350 with a 5 speed in it...... His neutral safety switch mounted on the clutch pedal was working every other time he tried to start it and we couldn't order the part for him. Plus he said that he had just lost his job and was super broke. So I took him outside and showed him how to by p*** it with a paper clip, telling him that I had a similar Ford truck and had the same thing happen to me. He kept offering me 10 bucks for my time and I could tell that was all he had in his pocket, so I just told him to keep it lol. All these years later and he still remembered!
I have to admit my partz guy is the man. I walk in tell him I neen 27 inch coil wire wire, ya know 27 inch two feet. Any bulk hose I buy is cut 4 inch over. generaly dosnt ask application asks what I want best guess what it fits originaly, flips books to pics so I can see what looks closest to what I want. Owners a ****, I come back if my partz guy is at lunch.
Wait wait... I'm only 20 and the most irritating thing about a cashier now is how they don't count the change back to you up to the size of bill you gave them.
Well at least they don't charge for the at***ude. Polite society, where people have consideration and respect for others, is breaking down as the default value has become "Screw you". It just constantly amazes me that companies employ these illiterate, non numerate Neanderthals. Do they actually deserve a job? Let me do you a favor and take that job off your hands - since you're obviously hating it.
Customer service is a dieing breed. When I go out to eat I tell them right up front that the tip depends on the quality of service. ****py service=****py tip if any.
I had to CJ Steak, 49ratfink did it to me the other day lmfao.-Weeks <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/uxEq7dy3-Ok&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/uxEq7dy3-Ok&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Dont feel bad ..ignorance is running rampant in this country in more places than the auto parts stores..(not to make light of your situation) But ignorance is in every level of government, law enforcement, judicial , and education. Hell, presidential and congress too, right down to the dip stick that checked your blood pressure last week and more than likely ...got it wrong! (they are everywhere) Its because we or should I say this country caters to the stupid idiots that cant think for themselfs, and seems the need to s**** feed these brainless bags of *****. That and the lack of natural selection for the human race, it has enabled all these mentally challenged waste of human DNA to exist. Therefor ****ing up anyones life they come in contact with..Because they can't understand normal thinking or rationaly dealing with an issue. I wouldnt be surprised if he got that 7 dollar an hour job and doesnt even have a highschool diploma, and 3 years from now his dumb *** will be a cop or a judge or some other type of athority figure..****ing up other peoples lifes with his ignorance to real world thinking. dont even ask me how i know this **** really happens..maybe he cant figure out that 6" is half a foot and that half of the price would apply..Doesnt surpise me one F-ing bit! one place i do contracts for , they call it " **** up-move up" the dumb ***es get promotions..go figure
That was some funny **** right there... was he welding on a connecting rod... that wasn't even broken?? HAHAHAHA..... Thanks for that.
Part stores are going to hell in a hand basket. And this new generation of teens (my daughter included) will make you beat your head against the wall because they are so stupid. They think that if you cant find it on a computer then its not there. I watched my daughter click and paste her entire Junior paper in 15 minutes and she thought she was doing something. And all the while texting her buddies on her phone complaining it was taking to long to do the work! This is the generation that is going to be running things when we get too old to do anything. God help us all..............
I stopped by the auto paint store to buy a new pressure regulatorfor my paint gun. My 20 year old Devilbiss air pressure at the gun regulator had finally died. The store I stopped at is NOT the one I normally use ... but it was on the way home from lunch. I walked in and the guy ( 50 to 60 years old ) ... was on the phone. He was shooting the breeze with a friend. He told the guy on the other end ... how business was down 30 to 40 per cent and he had only had one customer all morning. It was about 1 in the afternoon by then. I was there about 5 minutes without as much as a Hello ... or I will be with you in a minute. He kept on shooting the breeze with his friend. I was within 5 feet of the guy ... sitting on my side of the counter and he just keeps on shooting the breeze. NO wonder he had no customers ... I walked out ... drove 5 miles out of the way and spent my 20 some thing dollars at another store ... where the customer service is first rate. I will NEVER stop at the 1st paint store again.
Man, you got it right about customer service! It's got to the point where I hate having to go anyplace where I have to talk to a person. Not that I'm afraid of 'em, just tired of most of their at***udes. And it's not just the kids. I was a loyal Ford owner for over 30 years till not one, not two, but THREE different dealerships' service writers gave me the "you're stupid" at***ude about some warranty work on my then-new '01 F150. And it wasn't just the Ford garages, I tried the local Chevy dealer, went and tried to discuss service stuff with the writer and got nearly the same condescending at***ude. Only place I was treated like a customer was - well, I'm now driving a Tundra - at least it was built in Indiana (never ever thought I'd drive anything but a Ford!) and the Service folks are actually very nice - is it the training they get, or what? It's not the product, my Ford could've easily been fixed but they so much as told me nope, not going to(they tried several times and failed). And I won't do the lemon law thing - that doesn't change those jerks' at***udes and I don't have time to waste on it. I took my Tundra back to the last Ford guy and told him I fixed my ride then pointed to my Tundra. In today's economy it seems these folks should realize a lot of people don't HAVE to come to them. I don't get it.
Anybody ever see the movie "Idiocracy" this is where we are headed! <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/L0yQunhOaU0&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/L0yQunhOaU0&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
If you asked a Canadian why they like shopping in the US, probably 50% would say it is because of the good service we get. That will tell you the kind of service we get at parts counters, restaurants service stations, or any where else. the service and at***ude is horrible.
I just posted a situation of my own. I hired aacrossusa to deliver a 49 Chevy from Tx to Md. All I asked is that it don't come on Saturday the 7th. The driver calls me today and says see you on Sat. I called aacrossusa and the guy told me he didn't give a sh*t. He got my money and actually said he didn't give a sh*t. He probably can't make change either.
