I guess I have a soft spot for rescues....a guy called me yesterday an offered a 50 Chevy thats going to the s****per....unless I wanted to save it....dammit....last thing I need is another project but I can't just let it die. 1950 Chevy Deluxe....235/PG.
You southwest guy's rough rescue cars would be our solid survivors...lol. Years ago, I had a '52 with a 235/3spd, and I put a load of miles on 'er. Have fun with "the poor thing".
He has to remove it from the property by next weekend and that was his quickest option if I don't want it. He would rather not s**** it so I guess its up to me.
Buy it and flip it. Someone will want it. Put the funds towards your project. No charge for the investment management advice.
It always a good idea to save a car like this,,,You can nevery have too many projects,,,well,I guess you can,,but,, HRP
going to have a first hand look at it in about 2 hours....wonder what the other side looks like. Maybe I'll give it to my girlfriend for a belated V-Day present.
Bring that baby home! Similar car on the cover of R&C few months back. Patina on the outside and leather interior with LS engine. Very nice!!
BING BING BING BING!!! Ship that thing up this way! It looks to have less rust than my 2002 daily driver!
Don't all of us East Coast guys HATE guys from places like Texas ? Except for maybe the doors, the rest looks really solid. I vote for g***er. The hood is already off of it, so why not ? Don
your the HAMB hero good save , id have had it on a trailer home to , s****ping that car would be blasphemy
went and looked at it....every panel has rust except the roof. All the trim is inside the car including the bumpers and hood trim...but the hood is MIA. Even found the ***le in the glove box. We are still negotiating....now he is saying "this guy offered me **** and another guy offered me****" ....so I told him to sell it before they changed thier minds. Update.....He came by my house a little while ago and sold it to me. So...I guess I need some guidance from the early 50s Chevy experts.....what year hoods fit? I'm guessing 49-54
I think you are right.....I was looking at some pics and they don't look the same. That narrows it down a bit to 49-52.
In another post......g***ersteve in arizona just bought one and discovered his fender looks like this.....
well....I got the 50 home. The body is pretty badly rusted on every panel excpet the roof. But....it is a deluxe with a 235/PG and the 3:55 rearend. Lots of good trim also. Somebody removed the head and had it rebuilt and put a rebuilt carb on it and it doesn't look like they got it running afterwards.I don't think they knew what they were doing though because they used silcone on the head gasket.Motor was stuck but broke loose pretty easy. It will turn almost all the way around except for one spot. All the valves are loose and not sticking so I guess one cylinder has some rust at the top keeping it from turning all the way. So I guess my next plan is to pull the head and see how bad it is. Would like to at least get it running so if I find a good body I'll have a decent drivetrain to go in it. Only paid $400 for it and found the ***le in the glove box....so I figure it was worth that even if I only use it for a parts car. The real bummer though was someone made off with the fender skirts. I didn't find them in the car anywhere.
