I was working out in the garage today making a vintage looking sign. I have made many signs in the last several years. I like old signs and have a few. So I was given some old wood and I started doing them. I have donated quite a few to our town to be auctioned off at fund raising events in town. I was thinking today that I get as much satisfaction from doing art projects as I do building / working on my hot rods. I have always been involved in both hot rods and art as far back as I can remember. I think it is all creating and art to me. Here is a sign that sold at a our senior center auction fund raiser for $1,000. It was all profit for the senior center. It gave me great satisfaction like driving my 32 roadster for the first time. And here is my roadster, also gives me great satisfaction. Like I said it's all art to me!
Mark, your a good man to donate your talent to a local senior center. I happen to be the fortunate recipient of one of Mark's signs. HRP
Danny that was one of my early one's. I cringe when I see them. I have gotten much better. I am glad you still like it. I guess next trip I will need to do a new one! I can't tell you how many have sold at in town fund raisers. I enjoy doing it for our great little town.
Mark, I felt good selling you the wood, historical wood. It was flooring from the Taylor homestead in Bethel, Ct. They loaned a cousin some money years ago, and he went on to make quite a name for himself, that T is for Taylor in P.T. Barnum's name Bob
Mark, Hot Rods are an Art form. I've seen the Mona Lisa at the Louvre in Paris. I wasn't impressed. I would have rather seen Roth's Drag Nut. Like you Mark, I get as much satisfaction from building model cars, sketching Hot Rods, taking photos etc. as I do driving the Hot Rods. When we use our imaginations it's art. But I call our style of art, {HAMB ART }! Like Ed Roth said, if you have to ask about his art, you wouldn't understand. We all have different talents. I love your signs. I've tried to do lettering, and pinstriping. But I'm not good at it. I think Art is. and should be FUN!
All those years spent in paint and art sales, One Shot lettering enamel was a huge seller and having access I tried lettering and pin-striping many times over the years, some people have a God given talent to be creative with a lettering quill and a sword stripper, on the other hand I do a pretty good job with a 4" brush or a 9" paint roller. HRP
Bob, yes I have been putting it to good use. Making money for Bridgewater and some for me as well. I will post my latest in a day or so. Sent from my iPad using H.A.M.B.
I agree Art is a much bigger player than most believe in Lives Then and Now...So many things we do warrant skills all do not have such as Building Hotrods, Painting Finishing, Maintaining, All Trades that have an Element of Artistic Finesse in their execution...Especially as Hotrod evolved... Sign/Showcard Writing are closely related to Hotrod in Advertising and Show so no surprise seeing your Good Life Enjoyment from experiencing the Art of Life...HambTastic... ...I'm a gifted Artist and find enjoyment in creating out of the box moments and Enjoy and find Inspiration in this great historic past we have experienced and celebrate here... ...The Art of Forming, Finishing and Assembling Metal...I am no MetalSmith but an Artist of many things at different levels and CT it feels good inside to Get the Art On Eh! Latch is still a work in progress...but I'll Get a Round Toit... Credit to Artist
Great work! Just a thought quick an Easy would be a rare earth magnet or two, Providing you have a knob on the outside..
It’s been sed, it wouldn’t be eARTh w/o ART. You gotta have art, whatever it be...it’s human fulfillment.
I feel its important for anyone who has talent to be willing to donate a little bit of it at times for a good cause. Awesome work Mark and hats off for your generosity!
great job on the signs! i have a friend who is a great artist/ sign painter. its impressive what you guys can do. that sure is great giving back to the commnity!
Mark, that's cold although there might be a smidgen of truth to the statement. How about , "Bob's Electrical, nothing shocks me anymore, let me find your short's" HRP
Great work, and you have "The Most Beautiful Traditional Roadster" I have ever laid eyes on. Congrats !!!
Finished the sign I started the other day. This will be my last one for a while. I need to get back to hot rod stuff! I should have my hydra-static gauge back soon for the roadster. Plus some other things to do on both 32's. Sign finished today, will get donated to the next fund raiser in town.
Thanks Hollywood, I have a Reproduction cupboard like latch which would no doubt have existed in the garage fixer upper junk box back in the day but haven't installed it yet...there have been complete Hotrods built here in the time I've taken to get this done... Like the box itself I could have got a $20 repro hardboard box and proper 36 ford hinge springs but where's the fun in that... A magnet never even dawned on me (good suggestion)...I went with a spring for now that's tying me over till I get on the real deal and yes there is a knob of sorts 36 Ford original...
...a festive Stogyism...an Inspiration of @ClarkH's Speedster intermingled into a Vintage image packed with Period Daily's...The Station Name Random and coincidental...
