TODAY was going to be the day. Ive been trying to get the motor fired in my coupe for the last few weeks and do too little set backs it hasnt happend. Last weekend at the Springfield nats I pick me up a high torque starter...now I think Ill get this mutha fired. Im running a lakewood ****tershield so a stock starter wont work. Any who, today I run to the parts store to get the last little bits to at last get this thing running. I hook up the gauges and wire the ignition and starter. Everything is a go. I hit the switch the engine is turning over... belches through the carb, turn the dizzy a little farts out the exhaust...no prob must be 180 out. Make the change needed, crack the gas a little IT STARTS momentarily. Does this several times, before I realize I have a huge vacuum leak do to a plug left out of the center carb. Ok thats fixed lets try it again ...hit the switch ...nadda. The solenoid kicks in but the starter doesnt engage. Battery dead? hit the switch again a faint whine from the starter. Damn... hook up the charger let it charge for a while come back same thing. It might be a long shot but I take my brand new starter off and bench test it. Sure as **** the starter is bad. I pull the solenoid and I find that brushes and some other parts arent where they are supposed to be. I emailed the fine folks I bought the starter from to see if they will stand behind it, but Im not holding my breath. The up side to this whole thing is I did get to hear the rumble(however so brief) of the exhaust, and that has inspired me to keep going and not give up. Even though I had yet another set back Id call it a good day.
haha sounds like my alternator incident, wnet through 3 before i got a good one. dont worry dude, its so close!!!
