Quite a brave build. Looks a lot better than when you first got it. I see no reason that the metal will not paint. Metal that is welded has no effect on paint and it gets hotter than this did. Keep up the good work. David
Thanks for all the interest in the old sled. I find it hard to believe people are following something I'm working on, but it does make me motivated to finish it vs pack it away and forget about it. Wow, four years. I would have guessed I'd have a roller with the drivetrain mounted if you'd asked me when I got it how far along I'd be by now. I did take the summer to get the car I took apart 14yrs ago running so that didn't help. I spent the weekend working on the trunk lid. I started off wanting to replace the bottom 1/3 of the lid, but once I started pounding and wheeling I figured out it wasn't going to be easy to do it in one piece. So I cut the center out and concentrated on just making the section that was rotted out. Once I got it fitting I ran it through my hillbilly tipping tool to start the foldover for the edge and welded it in. It's just the skin right now. I think I'm going to make an interstructure and make it a lift off lid. The old interstructure is lace and patches, at least what's left of it. The plan is still a lakes coupe. With the ECTA running 30min from my house it looks like I'll be going A or B/GCC depending on my crankshaft choice. I plan to run D/CPRO in an O/T car next year, hopefully 2015 the coupe will be ready.
I consider that a very advanced patch as far as metal working skill. I doubt I'd try that with much confidence Nice progress.

I have a couple 40 coupes and have been deliberating on whether they were savable. After seeing the work you have done I am convinced they can be done.Neither has been in a fire but the metal termites have taken their toll. Thanks for the inspiration and keep up the good work.You have done an amazing job !

Good to see you're still at it 1/2 done, wish I had as much drive as you, mines no further along than it was 8 months ago, and mine is just 'tinkering'. Your work is inspirational. How are your 40's going Zibo, love both those builds as well, there's alot of talented guys on here.

I've been working on it here and there when I have time, no major progress recently. So today I decided I was going to at least get a panel to the point of primer. It's nowhere near finished but now I can tell where the problem areas are, one being the shape of the rear window in the top corner. Amazing how even primer will make all the imperfections stand out.
Love the work you've done , seems a shame about the title problems, Is there not a way round getting it legit ? , if one of the previous owners kept the chassis and the title, is it possible to get a title from the three spares cars ? They must have some historical id recorded somewhere In England we can get sometimes get a age related number plate and log book ( title) If enough information can be provided to the evil DVLA
