these people can't tell the difference between an antique car and a piece of junk that someone drives with parts falling off. a tire could have blown on the idiots prius too and caused the same thing. what does a tire failing have to do with the age of a car?

I hope everyone reads the article.
Now stay far, far away from me as I drive my old car.
Don't tailgate me anymore when I'm driving my old car.
Don't cut in front of me when I'm driving my old car and trying to keep a safe distance between me and the car ahead.
Put your cell phone away when I'm close by in my old car.
Pay extra special attention when I approach an intersection in my old car.
Stay far, far away from me in my old, dangerous car.
    Just stay far, far away.

someone should tell him that cars in California don't get inspected at all other than smog check every 2 years for post 1974 cars, and many counties don't even have that.

    idiot.

I just read Paul Muschick’s derogatory story about antique and cl***ic cars and I must say I’ve never read a more lopsided story about vehicle safety. Although he admits that these cars make up a tiny fraction of the total vehicle population, are seldom driven and are fanatically maintained by their pampering owners and that there were no known accidents attributable to these cars, he STILL goes on to say they should be admired from afar because they might be dangerous. I suggest he stick to writing about some thing he is a little more informed about, and he owes the entire antique and cl***ic car community a huge apology. What ****!! I will be forwarding his column to all my fellow car club members for their input as well

    In his article he he has this quote;

"I found only two other reports of antique car accidents in The Morning Call's archives since 1992, with neither mentioning a cause.

So the next time you p*** a vehicle with an antique license plate, admire its novelty. But keep your distance."

In my post I asked them how many "State inspected vehicles" were in accidents over the last 16 years ?,..... with all those nuts on the road, yeah, Keep your distance !

Now maybe some of the smucks who used to tailgate and drive in my blind spot will stay back, when I get mine on the road again. The flip side to this article is the care and maintenance that older car owners give their cars. Also, did this yahoo check recall records? An older car, restored to original specs, probably didn't have the flaws that modern cars seem to have, when they leave the ***embly line.

Sad part about this article, a lot of people who probably wouldn't have given a damn about older cars, will now want to hop the band wagon.

  17. This article needs to be circulated to every old car organization, then each member be required to respond.
I used to live on PA, and attended meetings 30 years ago between the PA State automobile licensing authorities and NSRA, AACA, and other hobby groups when the Street Rod tag and requirements were being set up.
The lack knowledge of the people involved at the State level then was criminal, but through education the hobby groups were able to have fair legislation p***ed.
Small town newspaper writers need to have copy on the editors desk, no matter if it's true, pertinent, or necessary. This writer has made numerous presumptive mistakes and presented several half truths, I'm sure well written, intelligent e-mails to him will also be read by his editor. Let's make sure this person learns the truth.
I'll have my response done by the time the drags come on the telly tonight.

OK all you HAMB blogers...mine has been sent...has yours?

My reply to Paul morning: TICKED ME OFF....

    "Ah interesting article..
Your writer went from "Cl***ic cars" in the heading to " old car in the opening paragraph"...
Paul Muschick missed the point that most Vintage/ cl***ic car owners are extremely meticulous regarding the Safety, Reliability, fit & finish, and Pride of ownership of the Cl***ics in their care.
Ask ANY cl***ic car owner about what's most important & safety is most certainly at the top of the list.

    here's my rub,...

WE cl***ic car owners ALSO must share the road with the drivers & new cars of today. Drivers that carelessly cut you off if a space if 2 feet exist in front of you while driving....
Or drivers that are listening to headphones or are talking on the cell- not to mention watching DvDs playing or putting on make up or lighting up a smoke..
While some Cl***ic cars are updated for some of the creature comforts,,.MOST Cl***ics are UPGRADED to Disk brakes, New radial tires. Most if not all are spotless inside and out--most Do not smoke in their cars..
    Why?
    Pride of OWNERSHIP..
Cl***ic car owners enjoy the sound of a smooth running flathead or a toned exhaust note while driving - period. Our Cl***ic Cars have no ' check engine light', most have very dedicated mechanical schedules that put Today Cars maintenance to shame. We also carry our children, spouses, so safe & reliable are our # 1 & # 2 priorities.

Spend some time with a local car club, See the enjoyment of the Hobby, the Pride of ownership, ask to see some tally sheets of what most owners have done or spent on their Cl***ics,..then apologize !

That author probably guides, as opposed to actually drives, a Prius or some other "oooh, lookie me, I'm so aware!" transportation module. Old cars scare the **** out of his "environmentally hip and politically correct" view of the world. He'd rather see people like us jailed for "endangerment" of others and their precious environment.

The author has zero concept of the fact that we are the TRUE environmentalists, in that we recycle old car parts and use them again, sometimes MANY times, over the course of a vehicle's life.

He would rather see all of our cars crushed and made into friendly little plastic POS cars...never mind the amount of petroleum products and other resources to BUILD the new POS cars far exceeds the amount we use to enjoy what we already have! If you've read the study of how much MORE resources it takes to build and drive a Prius over a Hummer, you already know the Hummer is far more friendly than the Prius!!!

But, our big, old, scary antiques disrupt his idea of his perfect, safe, green world. You know what? **** him!

    What A douche...

    Quote:
"Still, it takes just one mechanical failure in one vehicle at the wrong place and time to hurt others, or at the least inconvenience them by stalling traffic." Isn't that true for all vehicles?

I just think that's funny by itself. It just takes one idiot with a computer and msword to write a completely stupid article.

    Is a 74 motorcycle a cl***ic vehicle?

In most states, anything older than 25 years is considered a cl***ic, but you're right. He STILL comes off as a douche.

So that makes the K-car a cl***ic. Wow. I think they should revamp cl***ic to include style, since the 80's will now be cl***ic.

Don't you love it when a guy supplies his own rope his own hanging?

The above WATCHDOG story is funny as hell because he almost talks himself out of his own argument. Stating, essentially, at the end of his schpeel, despite proof to the contrary, the potential for danger exists with old cars on public roads.

The LIBERAL media IS liberal, not because of some orchestrated scheme or plot (they're not bright enough to pull off something of that magnitude), it's only because almost any story you hear or read from them is based on knee jerk, simplistic reaction.

makes him nervous huh? apparently he has never actually driven on the public thoroughfares. what a dumb***. i can write better than that... i wonder if he considers a late model Crown Vic lifted up on spring blocks and 22" rims safer than say a '50 shoebox with disc brakes and 15" WWW's....
or a freaking Honda with a fartcan and stickers?
