Last summer before heading to HAMB drags we got the ac going in my old 63 bel air. It was a under dash dealer installed unit. I was told it worked by previous owner and it had a belt on the compressor. We used freeze 12 from napa. We drained the system and added it. To my pleasant surprise it worked fairly well. It was 100+ that day and I was running it fine with a grin on my face.
If its a car you plan to drive in the summer distant trips to shows or what not I'd say add it. Nothing worse getting to a trip worn out from the heat, back sticking to the seat.
I will add it to my cruiser cars in the near future for sure.

No room under dash or under the hood, so I'll have to just open all the windows and crank the windshield open too! ;)
