Mercedes and other German companies name their chassis, engines and transmissions with various digits which have nothing to do with the car names.
Kind of like a TH350 or 727 trans, or an A body being a Nova or Dart.
It is confusing unless you are versed in the codes. I am not, so it's gibberish to me.

Sorry, I take too much for granted. Car model is an R 107, made until 1989.
R129 came after the 107 with lots of good upgrades.

Check Marketplace. You could buy 5 or 6 decent 107's for the price of
    that Skylark.

Not to put down your MB at all. However, I subscribe to the theory that an expensive luxury car, especially a foreign one, costs as much to maintain as it did when new no matter what the buy-in is now.
I am surprised though. I checked CL and saw a half dozen of them for under 10K. I thought they had a bigger following! Those are easier to work on than the later stuff too.

Most 107 owners go into it knowing they will be doing their own maintenance,
just like a 41 Ford owner so that's not really an issue. They made 257K of these so parts
cars are readily available and there are lots of resto-mods around including LS upgrades.
I think, at least in CA, they will be more appreciated if Leno's law goes into affect and more
no longer require smog checks. Try to find someone who understands a Bosch D-Jet.
    Besides there just pretty.

Appreciate it, but you'll get no conversion from me!:)
While they are handsome, I had to poke under the hood of a few, coming from a carb and japanese EFI background. Air door and fuel distribution lines I can live with. Warm up valves, the early sensors, the complexity and tough parts, compared to the other stuff kept me from diving in and getting good at those. Just didn't have a good mentor and couldn't learn and earn. Didn't like Ford's EECIII either and had to fix plenty of those. Under dash is like Lucas with a German accent, too.

Yup, that’s an a/c dash but it looks like it’s missing the York compressor. But the rest looks complete.

No factory Hemi A/C cars ever built, in any body style. Likely built from a 318 or 383 A/C car or real Hemi car with dealer add-on A/C (owner could have added too). Since the VIN plate is in the door jamb and not the dash, easy to swap in an A/C dash and not hurt the numbers.

Someone went to a lot of work to make a facsimile AC HEMI ragtop (and I appreciate the effort). That looks like a MOPAR receiver/dryer on the firewall with a factory heater valve.

Aftermarket a/c on the Sport Satellites was an under dash unit hung from the dash on the passenger side. I grew up in the back seat of a 66 Sport Satellite with aftermarket a/c. It was a 318 car, dad was a cheap ass.

That is why I windernif it is a factory 383 or 318 AC car with a Hemi transplant. But, it also has the Hemi car solenoid bracket on the driver's side.

If you dive into those cars, one of the first things that goes into the unibody is the firewall. A/C or non A/C. As said, no hemis were built with A/C. So a hemi car will not have the A/C body.

With the carbs taking up so much room on the top of the motor, the factory stuff doesn't fit.
Here's a 1966 440 with A/C. This is why no A/C hemis were built, along with top dog HP engine and a luxury power robbing accessory. Note that the back of the A/C is even or behind the dist. cap.
1966 was the only year for that added bracket on the left inner fender. 1967 and up they streamlined production so the components were installed on the inner, not that special bracket.
Here's a 1967 coronet hemi bay. Note the heater only firewall. Note the area where the A/C compressor would sit.

The Yellow one is a very well engineered change from as it left the factory. I won't guess what was started with and what was done, this is a modified cars site after all, not a resto site.
Don't know where they hung the compressor, it's got the alt in the normal place and P/S on the other side. Not a lot of room in there! I'd think it might be under the alt.

If you want to get picky, it also has an EI box and the later voltage regulator on the firewall.

That is very beautiful! I love the cream white with the blue interior. Very eye catching and alluring mistress.

It is an excellent build. Looking restored but better than it left the factory with AC. Someone knew what they were doing. I love this kind of "day two" car building.

I appreciate the crayon marked documented stuff and the day two stuff, but the game is too much time, money and connections to play in for this guy. The mystic started by going out and having a blast driving them.
Now top dog is the guy that tracked down and paid for the last remaining OG set of assembly line (not tire store) tires and valve stems to mount on his numbers matching wheels painted in OG enamel. Don't forget the unique factory used wheel weights!

Respect for the efforts, but you might as well restore tractors. They will never be used as intended. I'm glad there are people that do it and it makes them happy and fulfilled. Doubly so if they take them to shows and share them.
Shout out to Squatch253, tracking down original bolts for a 1940s Cat. At least he doesn't have 200K tied up in it.

I always love/hate the correctness of the over-sprayed ground cable on these cars.

That's what they hired all those 14 year old, 100 pound German kids for.
