    This one is SUPER EASY.

First, ya gotta be sure the dude hasn't moved and you got the right address.

Then you go deliver the car. Take helpers.

Don't just unload it, leave it sideways blocking as much driveway as possible. Take the tires with ya so it's not even remotely rollable.

Now you can start calling & asking about when he's gonna pick up the tires.

May not be the most grown up thing to do, but is probably within legal boundaries and seems to balance the karma somewhat.

    good luck

    That's a great line!

  4. JEEZ, no wonder he left it at your shop, no wonder his wife didn't want it around, no wonder he won't take your calls(LOL)....If I had a dog that pissed all over my place, and left it with you, I wouldn't take your calls either when you wanted to return it (more LOL here). I wouldn't spend a dime of my money or a minute of my time towing it to his house. I would let the city have it. My God, I thought we were talkin something of value;)

  5. Call him a couple more times, if no reply, the next call tell him "THANKS FOR GETTING THE CAR OUT OF THE YARD". He should be calling you shortly after receiving that message. Sometimes you just need to give them a little shock to get em going. If he is your friend he better not get mad at you for leaving such a message. If he is mad he ain't no friend and proceed in taking more drastic measures like delivering his car!

Some of the saddest words in the English language.....His wife wouldn't let him. Don't get me wrong; wives deserve to be heard and their wishes given respect, but there needs to be a meeting of the minds, not an ultimatum.

My favorite Hemmings ad seen long ago and recreated as well as my memory allows:
"1940 Studebaker Champion, wife says it goes or she goes; your choice, $400.00."
    I've always wondered what happened...

In Texas you can't file suit for ownership of an "abandoned" car. The county sheriff takes all abandoned cars and either s****s or auctions them. You also may have trouble with a storage lien since you don't have a contract for storage. If you're not in the business of repairing and/or servicing automobiles and don't have a repair order you can't get a mechanic's lien either. Call the sheriff's office and tell them to come get it, haul it somewhere else (like the friend's driveway), or meet city's code for storing inop vehicles.

He's not returning your calls, have you left notes at his place when you stop by?
Borrow a trailer and drop it off at his house. Done.

You've made reasonable efforts to have him deal with YOUR problem that he (unintentionally) created. Don't sell the car, because that could lead to him claiming it was stolen, plus he'll hate you, and talk a fair amount of **** about you to all of your mutual friends.

Put it in his driveway, right in front of his garage door, and he can deal with his wife. Maybe it'll be the last straw for her and she'll leave him. Then he'll owe you a REALLY big favor. She sounds like a peach.

LOL, I agree. I've been with my ol' lady for 17 years and to date I have never slept on the couch. If she's so danged mad that she doesn't want to be in the same bed with me, SHE can go sleep on the couch.
    I don't do well with ultimatums.....lol

I think delivering the car to his house would be the cheapest easiest thing for you to do. You've been more than kind to your "friend"

If you don't want to take it to his house, go put it in a storage unit under HIS name and address. Mail him the key. Done deal.

I hope I did not miss this answer in the 4 pages of posts. If he is such a good firend and he wont return your calls, go by his house one night and knock on the door. If he does not answer you ahve done your best and get rid of the car. Bury it, sell it, etc.

$3500... thats cheap. Those early Capris are as rare as rocking horse ****. As for your problem, some good advice already given. Not much of a mate tho...

  17. I'm still wondering why this is a rare race car? Is this the famed lost but not forgotten Henway?

put it on ebay and see what happens - use HIS phone number and email for contact.

Keep in mind, if the city comes to get it - you'll be charged for any services, including towing and conceivably even storage until such time as it is sold.

I echo the rest of the more sagacious HAMBers that have offered you their advice. Tow it back over to whatever house he was living in (make sure there isn't someone else there now) and park it in as difficult a spot as four guys and a sixpack of Schmidt can devise. If he was truly your friend, he would be available by now.

Its simple.Call his WIFE, tell her you will either drop the car off in her driveway, OR she or he shows up with the ***le so you can get rid of it because the city is about to fine you. I bet you the ***le will be there real fast or he will move it.

  23. I would send him a Registered Letter & if No response Tow it to his House & Leave it there!
Than let the City talk to Him about it.
or if you Value his Friendship Rent a Storage Locker & Put it in & send him the Bill
    just my 3 Cents

I have gone out of commission like that... for oddball reasons.

If I leave my car at a friends house, they are a "real" friend. Those same friends would put it in a locker.

It's a Ford Capri. Take the wheels off, paint it blue and tell the city it's your new trash dumpster! Sorry, couldn't help myself.
Seriously, I'd find out how much time you have and continue to get in touch with the guy. Unless you have intrest in keeping it I'd call a tow company right before the deadline that removes abandoned vehicals and let them deal with it. Don't know about Texas but here by law tow companys have to make legal attemps to get ahold of the last regestered owner. Downside if it's not in his name he will lose it. Not enough there to h***le doing the legal lean BS to get rid of it yourself.

FWIW, if the legal ownership of that car is in anyway questionable, like maybe there's no ***le or worse, you hauling it to his house could mean you are transporting a stolen vehicle. And maybe that's why it's at your place. Before you say "He wouldn't do that", you also thought he wouldn't do THIS, right?

He's not a 20 year friend, he's a 20 year acquaintance. And right now you are a tool he's using to solve a problem. Happens a lot sadly.

I'd let the city take it, ask them to come soon. Then you are legally off the hook, and morally too. Getting rid of a 'friend' like that is worth several hundred dollars at least, the city is offering to do the deed for free!

If you know where he lives, leave a note on the door explaining the situation and the date you will drop it off. His car,his problem. Contact your local law enforcement and tell them what you are doing.
