don't remember my 16th birthday. didn't have a car waiting for me, had to get a job and buy my own. turned 16 in January and saved enough to buy my 1949 Chevy in August. had no clue about old cars and nobody to teach me.

37 years later I think I have it figured out.... almost

  3. I remember that day well,
DMV tester handing me my licence and said Happy Birthday!
Went home and got the car I had fixed up, it was registered and insured already.
A pivotal day in my life.

    Have a great Birthday!

  4. Happy Birthday kid! Enjoy your youth, it slips away quickly!
My 16th wasn't that big of a deal because I'd already had my motorcycle license (and bike) for 6 months. But we did go down to the DMV that day and get my full car license. It was cool to finally be able to drive without an adult along, but I still pretty much just rode my motorcycle.

ahhh, 16th birthday, i'll never forget it. i was working at my uncles auto parts store under the table, from noon til 5, (signed up for high school work study, where they put all your classes in the morning and if you had a job they let you out at 11:00 am every day). got home and mom made my favorite dinner spagetti and meatballs, opened up a few cards, and dad said c'mon, i got something for you. man was i excited. so he drives me up to angus steak house, we go inside and he introduces me to the owner. o.k. well turns out he's my new boss! dad say's i'll be back to get you at 11, tomorrow you can ride your bike to work. my dad got me (another) a job for my birthday!!! i actually worked 3 jobs, i also landscaped on the weekends, saved enough cash to buy, register and insure my first car, a 64 chevy post, 283 4 speed car, for 500 bucks. i wish i could be 16 again............

Happy Birthday man. My dad took me down to the courthouse to get my license on my 16th birthday. We drove back (in my car that I had already paid for) to the house, he got out and said "See ya". It was the weirdest feeling driving for the first time all by myself. Will never forget the immediate feeling of independence!

Cool. Next milestone has a HUGE hangover involved.

Hold fast, kid, it starts to fly by from here on out.

Always excercise good judgement and remember that trees usually win.

Here's hoping for many, many more. Good luck out there.

  9. Happy birthday.

I do remember mine, and driving off in my 64 chevelle by my self! (washed dishes since I was 12 to buy it - cash)

Uncle looked at me in that car and said "boy, tween the white lines and shiny side up"

    Happy birthday!
16 was a fun time. I'm at triple that now. Still having fun but gravity has had an effect on the women, and maybe time has made me a bit more robust.

  13. Happy birthday. I remember getting a new 6 volt battery for my 1931 Dodge Brothers business coupe for my 16th birthday and my driver's license on the same day.

Yep I remember my 16th, I had a 52 Ford with a flat head V-8, I put a Fenton floor shifter in it, a Dixco tach. Couldn't affor new wheels so I drilled out the rivits and reversed my rear wheels. Re rivited them and a rattle can of paint and all was good. Loved that car...........................

Happy birthday, be sensible out there. My first solo drive I got the old '84 Ford up to 104mph, jumped a railroad track, lost my rear hubcaps and spent an hour looking through a cow pasture for the hubcaps.

happy birthday, at 15 i sold my first car, a 69 chevy 4 door, it had a 327 and i installed a Q-jet and fixed the rust and put a set of X cop car tires on it, dad would take me for test runs and i'd keep saying " kick her down i want to hear if the carb is working right" at 15-1/2 my parents took out a loan so i could buy a brand new GT 250 Suzuki, my payments were $69 a month, the day i turned 16 i got my learners and when it came time i got my bike licence, from dawn to midnight i was on the road when i wasent working or going to school

    Happy Birthday!

  23. Flamin' Ace is a pretty audacious name for a 16 year old. :D But, I guess that's how it is when you're 16!

I don't remember my 16th birthday specifically but I remember being 16 and the feeling of freedom that came with having my own wheels. My first car was a '64 Olds 88. I mowed a lot of lawns and pulled a lot of weeds to put up the $400 in cash that it cost me.

    Happy Birthday, amigo! Stay safe!

Happy Birthday!! I don't remember 16 but I do remember 17, that was driving age in NJ.

If you can believe this my DEAR mother made a dentist appointment for me the morning of my birthday. I HATE the dentist, it was even for a filling. The day I was to get my permit. In NJ back then when you got your permit you set-up an appointment to go back for your license test. The later in the day you got your permit the longer it took to get to take the driving portion. To say I was MAD is an understatement!! Almost 50 years later it still aggravates me:)

Got my license, dropped my mom off, got a half mile away from the house did a big smokey burn out the went to my first day at work.

Have fun kid and stay young. I'm pushing 60 and I still get the occasional wild hair for a burn out or some other mischief.

  28. Happy Birthday, I do remember my 16th back in 79. Took my driver's license test the exact day I turned 16, in my 68 GTO. Still have the same GTO, don't have the same youthful energy.

Have fun and drive your truck around to make all of us proud of a young guy driving an older vehicle.

  29. Turned 16 in '84, pop threw me the keys to his '56 Chevy hardtop and I threw my huge Panasonic boombox which was half the size of the back seat with my favorite mix tape of Stray Cats/AmeriGraffiti cuts and Buddy Holly...picked up my cuzin Freddie, we cruised the mall and the main drag... we were turned down by every chick our age we made eyes at, they'd just laugh at the car and call us geezer names. Cool thing was we were hit on by most women over 40...my love for rods and customs was cemented hard that night...and you're right, the loose over steer and hand burns from a big wheel with no power assist is a feeling not many your age will ever experience and all the better your memories will be for it!
If you make it over to Hwy 90 any time on a Saturday to cruise send me a PM ahead of time me and buddy are trying to get a few meet-n-greets during the summer going and be cool to see you there.

    Happy Birthday Ace
