Good on you is right, HRP
I did the same with my grandson with an off this subject site, ' 96 Mustang.
I have Daughters, (2) living, (1) resides with our Lord. She gave the GS the Mustang when he got his license. He drove it a couple years, wrecked it (3) times, fixed it, one time with Grandpa's help and then gave to his sister, my granddaughter of course. Granddaughter enlisted in the Marines, doesn't need it any more, tries to trade it on a newer one, no dice says the dealer. So it sits in my oldest daughters yard, I buy it from her (it had been lowered), black paint is trash, interior like new, figure on making a killer ride out of it, but mother nature says your days building cars are all done big guy. It lives with my 34 for a year or so while I figure out what i'm going to do with it. Meanwhile, Grandson (25) moves in across the street. I go over ask him if he wants it, he says no, he don't have the $. I said, "It ain't for sale, just come over and get it, here's the title still in you name" . He's grin'n from ear to ear and drives it away. Still no money for referb, but it is in a storage unit ad he says one day he'll get er done.
I'm gonna hope this reply doesn't get this thread trashed, the world needs stories like this. Moderators if you must just trash this reply, I'd understand completely.

what does the truck look like today your giving your grandson?

  5. The truck has been in the barn for more than 30 years so I can assure you it doesn't look like it did, where I removed some trim and emblems and filled some of it with brass the filler has popped out, especially on the hood.

But the truck is definitely worth the effort to get it back on the road.HRP

His name isn't Jake Lancer is it?

  7. You’re a good man Danny! That truck is super cool, my first was a 1966 F-100. What does your grandson’s truck have for power?

Yes I read it, but subconsciously I was thinking about the first statemant by "CT1932Ford" where he was talking about the Duece frame sitting in the dirt that the owner would not sell. You are right, just a brainfart on my part.

I have a friend that owns a Superbird that he obtain when the price of gas went way up and ownership of a muscle car went way down. He pick up this thing for $1,200 bucks from a used car garage and it was pretty beat at the time. He put as little money as he could just to keep the thing one the road and enough maintenance and repairs to pass the state inspection. After the joy and expense of ownership died out about 8 months) and the greater need of an affordable vehicle won out he put the Superbird in his parents garage and it has been sitting ever since (he now owns the house). He as been asked many times over if he would sell but the answer has always been "no". He has no plans of restoring it or ever putting it back on the road. I asked him a few years ago, why does he keep it. He replied, if I sell it, I could never afford another one".

  11. Yes if he sells it the money is soon spent and he will be left with nothing. Apparently he get's enuf enjoyment out of simply owning it. The same kind of enjoyment that stamp collectors & arrowhead collectors and other collectors derive. He bought it cheep enuf he can afford to keep it.

Way to go Danny. I have an off topic 80 Silverado step side that my 11 year old grandson is googly-eyed over every time he sees it. It has crossed my mind that it would be a great project for the two of us to get done for his 16th birthday.
