I picked this body up a couple months back. I figure I better get going on it if it's gonna make it to the salt this year. Items of note include a rumpity weiand equipped flatmotor, '39 transmission, Rodsville QC, wavy mopar tube axle up front, cowl steering, ally track nose, a Duvall inspired windscreen, and a nasty rake. Jrblack30 and I dropped the block, crank, and rods off at Mark Moriarity's (yea, different MM) Valve En Blocs machine shop in Warsaw, NY the other day. He's gonna bake it, check it out, machine the bottom end and hand everything to me for****embly and valve work. I nabbed some 2x5 tubing from our local surplus supplier and went to work on it. Punched some deuce-ish reveals into the sides... I pie cut the rails in a few spots to put some curve into them, swept the front a bit, and tacked them to the table. .250" square tube with the bottom cut off for the front crossmember... threw the body on to make sure it sits right before proceeding with frame work... Looks good to me!
Dave, that's exactly what I said when I started in on this thing today! Thanks Terry, slice a reveal in the side with the plasma cutter, beat the lower edge in with a wide chisel and hammer, push the top down with C-clamps and weld 'er up! There are some tech threads on doing this here on the hamb. Haha, yea that one's next on the list!
Love your build especially the 34. look forward to watching this one too. Who is your surplus supplier? No one around here might be worth the drive.
Small a john, small a... Thanks, Klein Steel on Kenmore, I'd call them first to make sure they have what you need but they do have a pretty extensive inventory. They can order whatever you may need but what they have on hand is cheaper. thanks Harv! Ratings are for TV shows...
Damn you! you're on to another one and i'm still working on my 32! hahaha Looking forward to seeing it come together man! This one looks a wee bit easier than the 34 though Tony
Shame that engine isn't ready, you'd be driving by the weekend. You keep amazing us, I'm sure this will be no different.
You never disappoint..always something different. Go kat, go. Oh, and by the way, congrats on your 34's pic in the new Hot Rod Magazine! Did you get all of the sand out of it yet?
Andy, Great start, you didn't tell me that body was that nice. Did you get that information on the valves from Mark? I am interested in getting a full set, maybe 2 sets.
I was wondering when you were going to start this thread! Sent from my DROID device using the TJJ mobile app
You sly dog you!!!!! Can't wait to see this thing!!!!! I need to channel your energy into putting someone on the street this year.
Allright! I've been waiting for another build thread. Hey, is this the body I saw on Craigslist a while back in Hubbordsville? If so you are now on my***** list! haha
Thanks dudes, the body is not as nice as it looks in pics, but way nicer than most you find in WNY... if that makes sense? It's got some ugly brazing repairs that nee to be removed and redone. The decklid, the toughie if you know anything about T roadsters, is the nicest I've ever laid eyes on, hands down. Joe this is the one that was in Hubbardsville, John Knecht had it up for sale. Yep the '34 is sold and living in switzerland now not far from its sibling, my old A roadster. If this keeps up, I may have to move over there and open a shop. My customers would save a TON on shipping. I did actually get the perimeter frame*****oned up this morning, but my camera battery wasn't cooperating. So here's a few pics of the engine toppings instead...
