project creep of the highest order... "lets seal up the firewall where the engine passes through..." "hmmm..while its out, might as well clean it up and paint it..." "theres some surface rust all over the bottom of the floor, let's clean that up and re-undercoat everything..." "boy this body sure is lumpy, might as work it out a bit..." "this thing would look killer with a halfway decent paint job, lets sand a bazillion louvers, and install a real grille, and lock the rear end, and dyno the motor, and finish the interior, and paint the wheels, and sipe the rear tires, and polish the ws frame, and add tailights and a recessed license plate behind glass, and make an easily removable headlight bar, and a 37 decklid handle, and a new radiator, and on and on and on and on and on...."
Quiet Larry! he has already done the inexpensive coupe build. I want to see Andy go all out on this one.
Andy, Just stopped in and brought myself up to date on where you were at on this great little hot rod. Looks good my friend. Ya got it all ready for this years race on the beach? Sounds like Ken is ready to rock & roll in the 55 car. Sure wish I could make the trip this year, but spending all my mad $$ on the new 3 window. It's starting to come together just not fast enough. Might have to have you come help me out for a couple weeks. Ha as you don't have enough to do. Mayor Dennis
Thanks guys, hope you can dig it in its new look! Haha, this thing is never going to be as nice as that coupe, no worries there! It's still just a race car, and it was SUCH a raggedy beat up body to begin with, I mean REALLY, really lumpy. I think it must have been in a fire at one point too, pretty work hardened and warpy in many areas. NOT the car to make really straight, but I had to at least smooth out all the weld seams and a few of the major dingers.
Saw the car at Trog looks great. Kinda bummed we didn't get to race, next year I hope. Getting ready to start on my T. Can we see some engine bay and*****pit pics please. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Hi Andy, I loved reading the build up thread on the track nose and wondered if you had additional photos of all the additional work you did that you mentioned. I have more of a vested interest than anyone else here as I'm lucky enough to be the new owner. I'm still waiting for the car to be shipped so it'll be another 6 weeks until I get to see it!! I was interested to know how the generator is mounted and what make it is. Did you ever have any issues burping the water system when filling it, ie did you ever get any air locks in the rad? Am I right in thinking the front brakes are 40's Ford modified to fit the Mopar spindles? Any additional information on the build would be gratefully received. Seriously looking forward to driving the wheels off of her!
I actually think the front brakes are mopar. I emailed Andy some time ago regarding a "double dip" axle, and fitting ford spindles on it, and Andy said he used mopar brakes. That being said, he could well have changed them later. As an aside, my "double dip" axle is now in the UK, with Dan and Chris Howell, the tech inspectors at Pendine. Cheers, Stewart.
Thanks Stewart. Pendine will be one of the destinations of the Kohler T, it'll be right at home on the sand having seen all the photos of it racing at TROG. I've had the opportunity to race there twice now in my coupe, it's an odd sensation speeding across the beach.
I'm hoping to be there in 2017 with my coupe. Always seem to be living in a different country than the one I want to drive my car in! Cheers, Stewart.
Nice build, nice quick build too, puts me to shame, My 27 has taken me far too long. Got to get it finished. David
Dave, How are you? Met you a couple of years ago at Prescott Hill Climb. I believe you may still have a dropped A axle that Glen (I think) dropped off to you ages ago. I had a potential issue with excessive negative camber, don't suppose you ever had a a chance to look at it did you? With any luck Andy's track nose will be at GOW this year and taking to the hill to be put through it's paces. Are you planning to be there? Nath
