  2. I decided years ago that instead of more space i just needed less stuff. Between several buildings i’ve got more space than some on here but as time goes on i have less and less stuff and more and more space

A transmission funnel poked through the back wall works and you don't have to run outside in the rain to use it.

For the OP, I know your pain all to well. As much as I try, I can’t come up with a plan to make room.
Good on you for getting it going!

I just did this in my 12x20 portable garage Sunday, sure made it easy to get my lawn tractor in it now without tripping over the mess.

Damn, is that what they're for?(Slap of hand on forehead) Mine just hangs on the wall 99.9 percent of the time. The 0.1 percent of the time when needed, I never seem to be able to find it.

Two weeks ago, I loaded up the truck and trailer and went to a local car show/swap.
Let me say that I unloaded almost everything I brought. Stuff was cheap it first and damn near gave it away at the end.
What misc.***** that came home with me went to the scrap pile.
I'm selling off rarely used equipment, getting down to what I really need.
Garbage cans are full each week.
Everything that does not have immediate use, has to go.
Starting to feel good about my space.
    Unlike the last forty years.
Good god I've got alot of*****.
    That's over.

Got after it again tonight. This is the wall that had all the metal cabinets. The barn doors are nailed to make the wall, clapboarded on the outside! This'll be new shelving for wifeys gardening stuff and car parts/ work bench to the right. I'm tired but it feels good.

Sorry @Tman, I couldn't even register without getting bumped to other websites and other vendors sites. After 5 minutes of trying. . . . I gave up

I feel your pain @wheeldog57, I've spent the summer putting a metal roof on my shop. Now I'm to the cleanup and sorting of years of accumulation.
I empty one rack, sort, and then refill a rack. People think I'm having a yard sale. shop.jpg Yardsale.jpg

  16. You have computer issues then. @Ryan uses the same format there as here with only a modern update to the code.

Kinda figured on the sideways expansion. I'll suggest, very strongly, that if you can extend out the back, do as far as you possibly can. ^' if that's the most, push for 10-12 +++, whatever you cna get. You *will* thank yourself later - well, sooner, too actually... :D . Also something to consider: Just how high, exactly, can you go? Might *seem* like wasted space, but w/careful building, you can reclaim a *lot* of space for a whole host of stuff, wifes' included. Second floor since it was a "barn" prior? Just use a pulldown attic-ladder to get into the attic - & floor that area. Redoing the rafters can get you more space, but I'm also thinking since you're in MA, you are allotted at least some cold + the Miserable White***** from Hell, measured in, I'm guessing, feet not inches. Insulation makes life better & then heat won't financially break you. Good luck.

A local fellow has these funnels (cones) for sale. They are 22" across and should work well for those occasional inaccurate trajectories. :p

Do yourself a favor and find some used pallet racking. It works so much better than wood shelving and holds heavier stuff. Takes a little searching to find sometimes, but its the key to getting stuff off the floor and out of the way. My son who is a neat freak came home from the military and his first house had an attached two car garage. The floor was so full of stuff you couldn't even think about putting a car in it. I offerered him a set of pallet racking I had. He declined and said he didn't have room for it. I insisted that he give it a try.
Next time I stopped by, he had gotten virtually everything neatly organized on that rack and there was plenty of room for a car and more stuff. Its really a space saver not a space taker.

I built a "shed" to house all the wifes garden things and the mower and her other stuff.
That way she has her own space.

Then I cut some pallet racks down and made her some shelving that fit around the walls in a "C' shape. It was nice heavy duty for her stuff.

Then gradually..........very very gradually.......over time, I began storing some of my things in the shed because she had extra unused space.

    See how that works............:D

Yup, pallet-racking's good stuff. Hmmm... maybe I should put some extra uprights I have in the for-sale section.

When it comes to storage lockers, I've had a few. And every time I emptied one out I realize that I should have dug a hole and buried the stuff. Does not take long before the rent paid on the unit exceeds the value of the***** piled in there.
Racks, shelves and cabinets often contain unnecessary, "will use someday" stuff.
Get rid of it. You'll be glad you did.

Have been working on my new shop garage all summer, thought it would take a few weeks, started on the first of June. Still not done. I feel your pain. I keep telling myself though, it's all going to be worth it in the end.
