Well got the bad news today the engine in my 35 is a goner.
 What ever broke really made a mess of it. So going with a
hot little 283 with a Duntov 30/30 cam and solid lifters most likely. I'm
a little bummed that the engine is shot, but would have rather had it happen now then this summer. :D I will keep everyone posted.

    Yep, sympathies here too...
But upgrading can be fun and rewarding too.
Sounds like a good plan on the warmed up 283.
    Good luck,
    Cheers.......

What a heap! You should get your money back. Or s**** it out! Sorry to hear that pal. How about Olds powered? I bet Paul in Puyallup could get you going in the right direction.

I don't think I want to mess with any of those old "Oldsmobile engines" they look and sound killer when done right... But going to stay as close to what was in it, Ole' Saphire would be happier that way... So no new wheels for this kid in the future... :D

It would probably run a lot better with the cam just smaller than the 30/30.
They got no bottom end at all. Is the other just an F.I. cam. I can't remember.

Ooooffff, that ****s! I might be in the same boat here pretty quick. I have to run over to ElPolacko's shop and carefully peek under the intake on the Plymouth's 360 this weekend. Guess that holds the Real Rodder's wheels back a bit, huh?

Oh, and I have to agree about the 30-30 cam. Nothing sounds as good, but for a car heavier than just a basic roadster, I'd call Comp cans and have them grind something to spec for your 283 in a solid lifter profile. Cams have come a loooong way in the last couple of decades. There is no reason to put up with huge holes in the powerband just to sound cool.

Yeah, to not be a poser. There aren't many things more lame than a 'cool' sounding motor that can't back up the bark.

Ya, I'd much rather have an engine that has a nice usable RPM range, especially when it's coupled to something like an early Ford trans with some fairly steep gear ratio changes per shift in a reasonalbly heavy car. It's kinda called planning ahead...

The 30/30 Duntov cam would be the worst possible choice for your car especially with only 283 ci. Cam technology has advanced eons since that cam was offered and it was a poor choice when it was new (the 350hp hydraulic would run circles around it even back then.

Easily for you; 283's are fairly common.

Otherwise sorry for the bad luck, but the timing wasn't too bad either!

Rob, I ran one of those 30-30 Cams in a 283. First in my T bucket and then the same engine went into my 48. You get damned sick and tired of adjusting the valves all the time if you plan on driving it a lot.

The bark and lifter rattle may impress the mouth breathers but I'd go with a decent hydraulic cam and get more power and enjoy my Saturday mornings doing something rather than adjusting valves. Those engines really like something like the cams that came in mid 80's Z-28's.

Sorry to hear that man, just saw the thread. Sounds like your healing the wound fast. That would be my answer if my Chev V8 croaks. Actually I'm already planning for it. Trying to get ahead of the game. Course once I do it'll last forever...LOL!

I won't be driving this one alot, maybe get a 1000 miles if that on between spring and summer. Billetoproof, Good***s, and a few local shows and open houses.. no more East vs West for this kid since I'm OHV guy... maybe Chris will let me drive my OT car in and I can park a few lots away.:D
