About buying a extra set of wheels & tires for the Ranch Wagon, Any of you guys have more than one set of wheels for your ride?

I'm thinking the dark center American 5 spokes & black wall tires would give the car a entirley different look. HRP

Yes on Americans, great look. I have never had two sets for any car, heck I can’t wear out one set.

  3. A set of era-correct chrome reverse with blackwalls would be perfect. With or without chrome dog-dish caps.

I'm not a fan of the 'smoothie' steel wheels; they don't have any 'character'. They look 'OK' if painted, but the chrome versions are just blah... My personal opinion is the wagon doesn't have enough 'hot rod' flavor to carry off a set of mags.

Thinking about stealing the wheels off the '51? LOLOL....

Steve, maybe we can line up side by side some day and you might just be shocked at how the old wagon can get down the road! :D HRP

    HRP,
My Ranch Wagon came with wheels and caps just like the ones on your wagon. I thought about some 5 spoke Americans that were popular back in the '60's when I was in high school. Given as I'm converting to discs up front I'd need to run 15's and I'm****uming that with the tight rear wheel clearances width and off set would be an issue making 5 spoke Americans hard to find but I could be wrong.

Entirely different look, alright...The serene two tone paint with American torqthrusts and businesslike blackwalls would look like the pretty daughter with her Dad's boots on! :D

  7. Danny, what about a really dark (but subtle) green on the spokes?

Steve might be crazy but he's not that crazy...and I think he meant that the wagon doesn't "look" hot rod enough to pull off the TT's. You might want to have Moose photoshop them on the wagon and give it a look see prior to spending the long green...on the long green wagon.

Oh and X2 on the chrome reverse but no smoothies!

020.jpg 025.jpg 086.jpg 482.jpg I'm always amazed at how much wheels will change the appearance of a car. Here's some pics of the Crown my buddy owned with various wheels, same car, that seemed to completely change it.

I think Torque Thrust style wheels look good on about anything. I agree, try you coupe wheels . I have a set of Foresight Indy wheels that would look good on that car. Either way your wagon is spot on.

I love it just the way it is, but vintage looking chrome reverse (with vents) and black walls would be my choice for a change.:)........p.s........No caps.

Believe it or not when I sold my 63 1/2 Falcon Sprint I kept the 14" Old Keystone 5 spokes and my fatherin law put them on the wagon back when he was driving it before It was passed on to us, it looked pretty good as I can remember. HRP

Personally, I think it needs a little dash of chrome on the wheels, If it were mine I would put on chrome steel slots (hamber @Phillips makes em new) or astro supremes with narrow whitewalls. Just my opinion but blackwalls just look to me like you are trying to be cheap....the top of the line cars back in the day always had whitewalls... only the cheap cars had blackwalls... again just my opinion, hate me if you want....

Americans would look good I think. The Chrome reverse wheel idea would be great as well, but instead of black walls, a small white wall like 1" wide for a early 60's look.

Pop the front's off the '50 and just slap on front/back on one side to see what the car looks like.

I used to laugh when I'd buy a new car and show up at the dealership a week or two later with new wheels on it and get asked where did you get this. Wheels transform any car.

  27. And that's why I don't think that style wheel will look that good. You'll need a shallow dish on a narrow rim in the rear to get them to fit and it'll look like you're trying too hard to get them on. Even a chrome reverse will be a tough fit; the '49-56 Ford cars all have really narrow rear wheel wells and unless you're willing to tolerate some rubbing and scraping and/or start rolling fender lips or doing tubs, getting a lot of custom wheel/tire combos under one is impossible.

My all-time fav for these is chrome reverse with white center '56 Ford dog dish caps.

As an alternative, how about a set of cheap steelies set up for 'trad' Dzus-fastened Moon discs? Run wide whites for a custom flavor, big 'n little blackwalls if going 'hot rod', and maybe some tasteful pinstriping on 'em?

Cragar SS's, American 5 spokes, Chrome reverse, Steelies, etc. all are great wheels..but not all are great wheels for all cars.
I'm a huge fan of T T's with black walls, would be a change that would cross that threshold into the mild Hot Rod world for your car just fine (thinking of the teenager in the sixties who inherited the family car, but wants to make it "cool").
    Beautiful wagon by the way.
