Was wondering what (floor jack) jack point people use on a straight axle - full fendered vehicle? On my '34 ford Pickup; I have been sticking the floor jack directly under the King Pin....... very leery of sticking it under the middle of the (Speedway) straight axle to lift. Can't really come in from the side to use the frame as the Hairpins disallow this. So; what Jack Point would you recommend?
If you have to treat an axle with kid gloves, why would you want it subjected to harsh roads moving at high speed anyway?
I've never thought twice about using the center of the axle. I would hope it could support the full weight of the car x2.
Don how long have you had it? Its just a question, and the reason I ask is that Speedy Bill's product has been suspect for a few years now. There was a time that while I have had a hard fast rule of not buying from Bill I would have touted his product in a New York minute, but not as of late. I know that it is bad to speak ill of the dead and that is not my intention, so take it as speaking ill of Chinese product.
Always used the middle of the axle and never had any reservations about doing it. You aren't picking up a Mack Truck. Main problem is finding a floor jack with a low enough profile to fit under some dropped axles, but I keep one just for that reason. Hoist away. Don
If you think it's too weak to support the car, you might prefer to find for sure out with a jack rather than a pothole at 80 MPH... My '48 spent the first year of its life in China, and its axles are still fine...is that relevant?
A rag or sponge on the jack to avoid scratches and right under the axle. If you think it might break it's better in the garage there than on the highway right?
drive up on 2X6 and jack in center with a piece of carpet to not scratch the axle--done it this way on many early Fords
Middle of the axle with a block of wood on the jack. If you want to jack it up from the side jack the frame and use a piece of 4X4 about 3 feet long to distribute the load.
I like to use a motorcycle jack on the center of the axle. The jack has very low profile so it slides under hot rod axles nicely.
Nope not relevant at all. We are talking about a modern Chinese product. The Modern Chinese product is the new millennium Jap junk.
