anybody have a jag clip they could measure for me? looking for measurements for:
front mounting points, center to center(inside or outside could give me a ballpark)
rear mounting points, center to center(same as above)
lenght from front mount to rear mount

trying to do some comparisons to the truck frame and don't have a jag here to look at. found a possible donor that has had a 350/700r4 swap done but it's over an hour away and before i made the drive i wanted to see some comparisons to see how well it might work....ken....

This is some information I was given some time ago, either from here or the Rodders RoundTable board. I was looking to put the frontend under a 1st gen mustang, for what it's worth it would fit with some trimming of the car.

--Measurments off of early 80's vintage XJ is: 59.5" hub to hub, 28.5" between mounts (both frt.& rear), rear mounts are 2" behind the axle CL & front mounts are 16" ahead of axle. 33" between the tower uprights that support the upper A arms.

--width - first numbers are mm, second inches
    Mk 1, 11 58-59
    F - 1422 - 56.88"
    R - 1381 - 55.24"

    Mk X 62-67
    F - 1498 - 59.92"
    R - 1498 - 59.92"

    S type 64-68
    F - 1428 - 57.12"
    R - 1403 - 56.12"

    XJ6 69-73
    F - 1479 - 59.16"
    R - 1506 - 60.24"

E type, E type Series II
    F - 1295 - 51.8"
    R - 1295 - 51.8"

    E type Series III 72-73
    F - 1403 - 56.12"
    R - 1403 - 56.12"

    XJ6 Series II 74-82
    F - 1505 - 60.2"
    R - 1520 - 60.8"

the best of the donors i've found is a 78 xj12 w a 350 700r4 swap for $1100. i know the xj6 has a different spring but i figure i can rob motor/tranny, ifs and maybe irs. and a few other bits and maybe sell the 350 swap stuff on ebay and get a bit of my cash spent back. i haven't called around to the local yards yet because i've been going back and forth on this.

i've kind of put away the idea of the volare/5th ave clip mainly because i don't know if i can get the drop i want without section the frame and raising the clip up in it alot or buying volare dropped spindles which are high and you've still got a volare suspension that some stuff isn't being made for anymore.

now it's floating between the jag or i've got a connection at Fatman that can build me a mustang ii set up to put the damned thing on the ground and still ride great. only problem is that'll cost like twice as much and i went into this truck as a budget shop truck idea...ken....

I think the jag would be light years ahead of the volare. The Fatman stuff would probably get it on the ground, but from what i've seen of Jag conversions, they can get down really low without cutting springs. Really good packaging, good design.

go with the jag front and rear. the front clip will give you big brakes with 4 piston calipers rack steering and is ment for a 4000 lbs car mustang 2 stuff is too light for some thing you plan to use as a truck.

jag rear you can set it up with the center section against the bed floor and have plenty of suspension travel with out having lost alot of bed space.

bed is only channeled 3 inches over the frame

frame is 31 inches between rails but the crossmembers could be any with you need. i also used xke lower control arms and axles

  7. Slag - Did you change the front jag springs? I am using a '78 xjs set up, and the stock springs were too stiff. It also seemed I was a bit limited on wheels, the front wheels need a 3" center hole.

did not use the jag front on this car but when i have used them in the past i get new springs from johns cars who specialize in sbc jag conversion and make lighter springs. and aluminum head sbc with headers is 1000 lbs lighter then the jag v12. front hubs i put in a brake lathe and turn them down to fit a standard chevy wheel

  10. Slag- Great information! Thanks for the help.
