I have this Jag rear. Guy that i got it from said it was xke but I don't know much about these. Has the factory gears along with a 3.90 posi set. I also have a cross member to weld the jag rear into a hot rod application (think he said a name like Mendoza made it, does that sound right?)and hubs to bolt a chevy pattern wheel on it. I have some parts for a jag front suspension, i think he said it was a sedan. Any idea if this is a xke rear and what kind of value it all has?
That is early xke approximately 1963-1964, they had tubular half shafts and narrower rear lower control arms (in the inner wishbone area). As far as value, they are all over the place but if you were looking for those early parts they would be very hard to find.
Probably $200 tops IMHO. They are not that much fun to reassemble and there are quite a few bearings and seals to be got, some not so easy to find and some not so cheap to buy.
I just bought some short shafts (11-15/16 on center) for 150.00 for the pair, and I was very happy to find them. i'm getting very close to having all the parts for my 30 coupe! if your missing some parts, any parts, call curt Hamilton in van nuys ca. he has everything and can do any work to make yours right. I friend and I spent 3 hrs. with him at his shop today. what a great guy he is, and will spend time with you so you know what you're getting.
I'm in the process of pulling all the Jag XKE front and rear out of my Hi-Boy,they do run down the road nice when done rite. Just a little too busy looking for me. I have the same set-up as you, my roadster was built in the early 70s. Just couldnt see spending the money to re-chrome and rebuild the Jag. I'm going for a more traditional look, chrome drilled Super bell & Hairpins up front and a Winters Quick change rear. Here's a couple pic's of it with the XKE installed.
