Long shot...I know. Anyone done a steering box upgrade on the '42-'47 Ford pickups. I'd like to install a 525 box on my heap. I've been unable to find any info on this, as there seems to be little interest in the jailbar pickups. What did you do?
Compared to a lot of other models or brands not a lot of them survived at least in this area. Pretty much rode hard and put away wet or run into the ground and beat to death and robbed for parts. Still you should have reasonable room to work with to put cross steer in that truck and be able to mount the box so the drag link runs reasonably parallel with the tie rod and the fun part is figuring out how to hook up the drag link on the right hand side. People have used the Jeep tie rod end with the hole for the rod end for the drag link on occasion but I think the taper goes to the front side rather than the rear so that would have to be delt with. The issue with them is 11/16 left hand threads though. There is no free lunch in dealing with these things. Then you will most likely end up wanting a panhard bar to keep from pushing things sideways when you turn the wheel.
The pitman arm will fit the 525. I think ch***is engineering had the mounting plate, but shouldn’t be difficult to make.
They are cross steer from the factory. I have a couple styles of mounting plates, but they aren't specific to the jailbars. I can make it work, but thought I'd ask here if anyone has done this. I didn't know this. Thanks! Learned something already
Shouldn't be a complicated deal. Modify a aftermarket car plate to work. Shorten the truck column, add a floor mount, lower bearing, and U-joint. Make a drag link out of an old tie rod if the truck one doesn't work. Good idea to check the kingpins and tie rod ends when under there.
