I got the feeling a lot of people did. That's why I thought it might be worth posting. Lots of cool details.

I really like that look...don't wash it, just drive it.

Did anyone notice the front and rear sway bars? Look in the second set of pics(link) at the bottom of the page...click on a pic and then supersize it...

  5. I stood and looked at that car and wondered what the story was. Thanks for the help on answering that question, it is a great car.

I saw this car at the Throttler's meet also.

Love that car. What I love most is that one of the most influential guys in hot rodding runs a SBC with faux covers. Ha to all you so called ******** rodders.

The nerf bar is off of one of his 34 coupes. The same one that the yellow coupe's grille came from. According to R&C approx 1973. I've always liked his cars; they've always been solid, traditional-styled drivers full of hand-built details.

Guess this is a sidetrack , But even so .. What happend with those other 2 coupes he bought back in the early seventies ? The black `37 pu nosed / Nerf bar equiped car that Crazy daddy mentioned became the yellow car owned by a guy that sold Motorcycles ... ? right ? ... The #"3"( the one he could chop without beeing hung ) became the Famous yellow 1 , But what happend to the nicest one ? , and in how bad shape was # 4 ?? Well , Just courious ..
BTW:... I Love the 4door , and the `29Tub , and the Delivery, and the Postal-delivery ... Jake sure knows how to have fun with cars :)

I just don't get it. What's with other valve covers on SBC's? SBC's are great motors, why hide them? Seems like there was thousands of lincolns on the road at one time, why not use the motor from one? Did they all disappear, or are illegal? To me, it's just cheap to stick those covers on a SBC, it devalues the car, and that's a shame.

I went nuts when I saw that thing at El Mirage this year.

Easily on my list of "favorite cars ever".

    It's perfect.

Man, lots stuff hanging off that car... I'm more of a minimalist myself, but I certainly do like certain aspects of it.

Just to add a bit of history. The car was my friend Carl Johanson's daily driver with a Flathead for 27 years. He is really happy to see the driving tradition continue. Wayno

so have I, I still have some pages I tore out of a rod magazine way back when.. he was chopping the top on one of the four coupes.. man I wanted that lifestyle..
it's probably his inspiration more than any other single person's that I fell into this stuff.

and thanks for the link too

That is EXACTLY what happened to me, as well. That page was also in the first R&C I bought, one of those quarterlies that came out in the seventies. Wouldn't be here without it.

    I wanna know too! :D

The nicest of those three 3Ws mentioned in that article went all way east and now resides in the garage of Dave Simard.

I am sure a lot of you already know this, but Jake belonged to a group called "T.R.O.D.A." in the early 70's it stands for "Traditional Rod Owner & Driver ***ociation" He was one of the first to restore a "Historic Hot Rod", He chopped a 34 coupe when resto-rods were all the rage and a chopped car was considered junk by rodders and restorers. The coupe ( "the screaming yellow zonker") had a Buick Nailhead, 4 speed and Halibrand QC when everyone was using SBC's and TH-350's,.....
Then after building stuff for other guys for years, when he build another car for himself it was the 29 Highboy tub built in the very traditional way that everyone on this board embraces today,.. and he was very possibly the first one to do that. and a lot of people thought he went nuts ( especially when he painted it with a brush at the L.A. Roadster show or the Nationals, can't remember)
Jim "Jake" Jacobs deserves a ton of respect from the folks on this board that loves the "Traditional Hot Rod's" He personally has been true to these type of Hot Rods for decades before they became popular. Thanks Jake !
