In preparation for this years Jalopy Showdown Drags, at Beaver Springs Dragway, I ripped out my rear to install a posi unit so I wouldn't being doing one legged burnouts this year. Well chasing down the proper spline and length s10 axles to correspond with the decent, though disappointing 2 series carrier I had, became more of an issue to locate and secure than I thought it would be. Fortunately I started this swap 4 weeks ago in anticipation of any unforesen snags that might occur, which did arise. Thankfully my Dad showed up yesterday at my place to check in with my progress and then stayed to give me a hand at finishing the rear installation, bleeding the brakes and taking care of some of the odds and ends I wanted done before next weekends event. After all of the work was done, it was time for a test ride to see if the speedo we temporarily installed worked and if the posi rear did indeed spin both tires and didn't make any su****ious noise. Now I should mention that it has rained all weekend here in the Beaver Springs area so my Dad was a bit surprised when I told him were going to test the car in a light rain that was coming down at the time. "It's garsh darn hot rod for goodness sakes!" I exclaimed and down the driveway we went. My car roadster does not have a windshield and is fenderless and this was the first time it was out in the rain for me and I didn't know what to expect. Once the initial checks for unusual sounds were done, we just howled and cackled driving around town in the rain having such a good time and the few people that were out just looked at us like we were nuts by both being out in the rain in an open car and with amount of laughter that was going on. All I could think of was how the test drive was a combination of the Latimore event of driving in the wet and the BSD event when I did a big burnout to test the posi unit. My dad commented how much fun that drive in the rain was and could see why I am so eager to my roadster legal for next year since she just seems like she would be ball on the open road at speed. So, I trust we have paid our dues to the rain gods this weekend and that the gods of speed will bless the Jalopy Showdown Drags with sunny warm weather next weekend because my appetizing fun run yesterday just wasn't enough to satisfy my hunger for the influx of hot rods that will take center stage at the Beaver next weekend. Hope to see you there on Saturday, if not on Friday night since the gates are open at 4PM on Friday evening to accommadate our weekly Friday night Street Racing program and folks who would like to camp out all weekend to "live the kulture!" Glad to see I'm the only one working on my car for the drags. Here is a couple some pics of the mess I made last weekend at the Stoplight drags.
