Kinda new here but been to the Showdown just about every year. Always look forward to this show. What's the cut off year for parking in the infield? Bringing the newly roadworthy 64 Galaxie Wagon and can't remember if it's 63 or 64 or what. FYI - For those needing beverages, I live 9 miles up RT 15 from the fairgrounds and there is a beer distributor across the street from my neighborhood off of RT15. Larry & So What crew...since I'm close by If I can help out in any way before or during let me know.
We're not camping Saturday night. Anything worth doing in the area after the show closes? Any "Rockabilly" bars in the area?
That makes three of us then! Wow, Jeff, get after it man! I think Matt's got you tied for mad thrash braggin' rights. He's hoping to make the trip in this...
hmmm, every year my Buick sits another inch lower....I don't think I'm getting all the mud washed out!
Sprints at Williams Grove Friday nite, Sprints at Lincoln Saturday night. The Grove is just a few miles north of Latimore, Lincoln is about a 1/2 hr. south east. Both real easy to find and the best sprint racing in the world. The Grove is long straights and a half mile in about 16 seconds, Lincoln is a banked 3/8 where there isn't a bad seat in the place, just stay upwind of the shitters. The action is none stop at Lincoln, very quick lap times. Ask Paxton for directions, he might remember how to get there.
Lincoln Speedway, 7 pm sprints, late models & street stocks. it's right off rt 94 south @ 20 minutes from latimore full day of dirt in the beer !!!
OK all you dirt slingers, it's time to step up and get sideways and support this project. This ain't about stagger or wing angle, it's about sharing the love.
Three weeks to go bump! I wear Last year's Showdown t-shirt and get compliments from people you'd never expect. I don't know how you can improve on that shirt!!! This is an awesome get-together... make plans now!!!
Larry puts on the best show there is. Now, even the wife goes. She loves it. You have to ride the Red Rocket though.
I'm finally camping this time! Trying to get the wife's 29 RPU ready to roll in the mud. It'll probably have a for sale sign on it, though. She wants a kustom.
For anyone who hasn`t been to the Jalopy showdown and wonders what it is about, here are some photos I took at the Showdown last year. This should give you an idea what to expect. http://www.flickr.com/photos/millerracers2000/sets/72157605108142098/
First time to the show. Is the showdown 3-year old kid friendly? Any feedback would be great. Thanks.
During the show yes it's kid friendly but at around 10pm it does get a little crazy. Mad Dog, blow up dolls and idiots are not kid friendly!
Plan on attending this year. Had at blast at the drags so now I can't wait for the showdown. Anybody coming in from the midwest U.S. area that could help get a part out towards the Kansas city area for a fellow HAMBer? If so send me a PM.
I'm gonna bring my A roadster (with the banger motor) over on an old '52 Ford COE flatbed. I'm pretty sure the bed is about 4 feet off the ground. Can anyone think of a good place to unload it? Seems like I remember the museum having a loading dock of some kind? Or maybe someone local with a lift?
My goal was to have my car done for this, but it's not looking too good. Either way, I can't wait...I love spending Friday and Saturday at Latimore and then heading over to the local dirt track to catch the 410 sprints. IMO, a weekend can't be much better!
I would think you could take the truck out on the track and back up to the bank in the turn and unload it there? If I remember correctly the bank is pretty high in that one turn closest to the entrance side. I'll check some photos.
"First time to the show. Is the showdown 3-year old kid friendly? Any feedback would be great. Thanks." Sure,I would bring my kids if they were still that young. Latimore is a very nice place with lots of shade and room for the little one to play, etc. Lots of great cars for him or her to look at and the people are all very friendly. As far as the overnight festivities, not sure if that is kid appropriate, though.
I agree, the daytime event is very kid friendly, don't forget to "Ride the Rocket" BUT once the sun goes down I wouldn't have my under 16 year old there. I'm looking for someone from the Detroit area that's going in a truck or van that I could help pay for fuel if they hauled my go-cart and/or mini-bike for me.
A heads up on the sprint car racing. Thursday-Friday the Outlaws will be at the Grove. 358 Sprints will be racing at Trailways Speedway on Friday as well. Trailways is only about 20 min from Latimore. Saturday is a regular show at Lincoln Speedway.
My father and I will be heading to the WOO race on Friday. Last year I had to travel for business reasons, as of right now I'm gonna make it this year.
