I just saw over on Fb that the Jalopyrama show in Maryland is not going to continue. Big bummer. I was starting to make plans for 2023. Thanks to all the Rusty Nuts for a great show. Snowman ⛄️
The show has grown a lot. My coupe was in the fourth show. 30 cars inside the National Guard Armory in Glen Burnie Md. The 2015 Invitational in Westminster Md was a huge show. My coupe got an invite to that one. I went to the show this year ( 2022 ) and now I’m glad it did. I think the Deuce and 40 was the best show of the series. It was raining cats and dogs outside…only a few cars and food trucks outside……but inside it was mostly car guys and there was a certain hush or being quiet going on. Hardly any wives or kids in the show area. The cars were setup to allow everyone a full 360 degree view. I for one will miss this show This video is from one end of the 2015 show
I was there in 2019. We had a great time and were treated like royalty. I too am going to miss it. Snowman ⛄️
Very unfortunate. I had the pleasure of having a car inside in 07 and 21 and we were already making plans to go back for 23. We always liked going to that show. Hopefully something might come along and take it's place.
Had my car in the show in 2010 and in 2017, and have attended almost every year. The weather has not cooperated the last couple of years and this past year in particular was especially bad. But this show has been a staple of the rod and custom scene for years and it could always be counted on for a top-shelf production. It will be seriously missed.
That totally sucks!! I was looking forward to the 2023 Customs on the Ice event. Does anyone know why it is not going to go forward?
Me too.The post on Fb does not give a specific reason that I could see. Maybe @Scooterville can give an update. Snowman ⛄️
I talked to Mike about this a little at the show this year. All I knew was that he was stepping back from the Show due to the level of effort required throughout the year to put the show on and his desire to cut back on his commitments. He did not tell me this specifically, but I got the feeling that he would have been open to passing the torch, but evidently there was no one willing to step up. Just my impression. It was a fantastic show every year and regardless of its future, I thank Mike and the rest of the RN for all of their work over the years putting it on.
Sad news for sure, but nothing lasts forever. I attended from back in the Glen Burnie Armory days and always had a great time. It was an event that I always looked forward to. Now, the Shades of the Past show will apparently end after this year. I think we all should make every effort to get out to any event that we keep finding an excuse not to as it may go away. I'm so glad that I finally made it to the Detroit Autorama a couple of years ago. It was one that I had on my list from the 60's when I would read about the builds of the Alexander Brothers in R&C. We ain't getting any younger. Get out and enjoy an event before it's gone.
I participated in the outdoor show in 2019. This year I was honored to be invited to display my rod at the indoor show. Thanks to Mike and the Rusty Nuts for a great event.
Too bad. We all need to support as many of the events that we can. Stop whining, stop procrastinating, show up with or with out your car.
I have a 1 of 4 scoreboard Banners from the 2019 show if anyone’s interested. It’s taking up too much space now. I want to hang my other Jalopyrama and hot Rod related things up in its place.
I’m sad to see it go. I’ve been to the very first one, had my 41 Chevy inside for the 2015 Reunion in Westminster, and my blue 39 Ford Coupe for the 2021 Easton one. Became a Rusty Nut late in the game and helped out for the 2019-2022 shows. It was a blast! Thanks to Mike Szuba, Jay Fitzugh and the gang for making a great event over the years! It will be missed!
